Hardcore steven universe fans cause artist to commit suicide

I dunno man, when /pol/ got destroyed it kind of seeped out to various places.

I flooded a rat nest once and hundreds of soggy rats came out, but I wouldn't really say the nest had been keeping the rats contained. It was just where they returned when they weren't out ruining everything they could find.

See also what happened when reddit started shutting down the racist and misogynistic subreddits recently. That was the website equivalent of pouring gasoline all over a nest of racist ants and then watching them all ablaze stream into your house and burn it to the ground.

I gotta be honest, all I really see is one kid on the internet arguing about their art style with other kids on the internet, with nothing confirming that an actual suicide attempt too place other than that particular kid announcing 'Going to sleep forever' on Twitter.  Frankly, I'm of the opinion that announcing ones suicide attempt is counter productive to the suicide process.  Telling others tends to cause police and paramedics to turn up and put a stop to it.

Most of the people who consider, attempt, or complete suicide actually don't want to die, technically.

Most just want to escape from a big problem in their life, put an end to their pain, and/or draw others' attention to their suffering.

When people announce suicidal thoughts or intentions, it's typically because they're trying to get others to notice and understand their pain.

On a separate note, people also need to understand that these online kerfuffles overwhelmingly involve young people. You can't expect a 14-year-old to handle or react to an online fight the way an older person would--hell, especially since plenty of older people engage in trolling, doxxing, and flamewarring, too!

Teenagers and young adults lack life experience, often experience very strong emotions, strongly value their peers, and can be short-sighted, impulsive, and narcissistic at times. They often lack the maturity, sense of perspective, and life experience to cope effectively with, say, being dissed or rejected by peers (whether online or offline), and they may be reluctant to ask others for help once they get in too deep.

If a young person is actually struggling with clinical depression or anxiety, that just adds fuel to the fire.

This sad case really goes to show how SJWs (not to be confused with legitimate social justice advocates) are basically just garden-variety bullies with goodguy badges. That they call her "white" when she's clearly Latina and scream about her being "ableist" even though she's apparently (??) disabled indicates to me that "-ist" and "-phobe" are the new "poopyhead" and "faggot," because these kids clearly do not even understand half of what they think they're railing against.

[edgy words]

Seriously, even if this is not my kettle of tea I can see why people respond to the show and identify. That the show's creator has announced her intentions were to screw with several norms only serves to reinforce the idea. Like it or not, by dismissing it with "sucks" and "tits" you do yourself a disservice; I think you're honestly more intelligent and articulate than that. You can dislike something without resorting to crap like "fuck their lame ass nonbinary character or whatever." Man, I dislike the show and can still do more than make my issues about the SJW and/or gender studies that are fueling big University systems today.

i mean should i say more?

like how its absolutely utterly boring to watch

like a bunch of 5 year olds got together and wrote a script about an older more moronic version of themselves in fantasy land?

i mean the whole nonbinary thing doesnt bother me, until i see that it is literally the only reason a good chunk of its audience enjoys the show

and really they arent even that non binary, they are clearly female

and steven himself is just the most insufferable excuse for a protagonist since anything from the phantom menace. everything he does is by accident. way 2 hero or be memorable. trope as fuck

its the only show on television that literally didnt make me laugh. not even once. and believe me, i attempted this experiment both smashed off my face and semi sober. not even a chuckle.

guess people identify with shitty cartoons. not my problem

Of all the things to criticize, FANART. Isn't fanart/fanfiction indulgent by nature? Aside from using it to pay tribute to their fandom, don't people typically do that to satisfy their personal desire to see characters in forms and situations you wouldn't see in canon? So what if it doesn't match the original version? Unless you're the creator of the original work your opinion is worth jack squat.

Sure, I have winced at some of the bizarre shit I've seen, like sexy Beetlejuice, but I have no right to tell someone that making a thin, pretty, anime version of a canonically chubby, gross, smelly character is some kind of unforgivable sin. That isn't my character and I really doubt Tim Burton cares about some kid's internet art. Likewise I don't think the creators of Steven Universe care if someone on Deviant Art draws a skinny version of their character. People can draw whatever the fuck they want and if you have the time and energy to put that much work into being offended by fucking fanart then maybe you should reevaluate your priorities.

What's really funny is that these people apparently let the things Rebecca Sugar does just fly right on by.

Quote: "Frankly I’m not sure what’s more disturbing: drawings of the Terrytoons characters Sourpuss and Gandy getting it on, drawings of characters from Ed, Edd n Eddy getting it on or drawings of characters from Ratatouille getting it on."

Note that all of the characters in Ed, Edd n Eddy are children. It's like Sonic porn but worse. GUESS THAT JUST SLIPPED THROUGH THE CRACKS LOL

Reading the comments made by these SJWs, it's seriously starting to make sense why some people want to put a full "IRL name & face for internet users" law into affect. I assure you a good chunk of these people wouldn't have the balls to say this shit if they knew people could link it back to their offline person.

Yet another case to my point that the final solution to the tumblrina problem is to just ignore them and take away their common enemy. When left to their own devises, these cursed spirits will cannibalize their own in order to feed that hunger that not even the half a dozen frozen pizzas they consume a day can sate.

Sweet jesus, tumblr really is the polar opposite of reddit.

I think they need to establish some rules about what blogs are okay and what aren't because this harassment is fucking garbage.

With that being said, please don't make this some anti-tumblr/SJW thread, we all got fucking sick of that on FAF and we don't need to bring that up again, bleh.

Tumblr kind of shares the same lax moderation that Facebook has, which is problematic if someone doxxes someone else or posts a pic of two people doing the "nasty" in a grocery store break room.

But, the upside to all this are the users speaking out against the people who prided themselves over making a "racist" attempt suicide.

when the lives of humans are less important than a fucking cartoon character, something is wrong

SJW are shit, and this is a pure example of what a SJW is

ive seen them rip each other throats out over how black "Garnet" is

It's mostly because SJWs are piss baby children who only care about what they want under a sugar-coated guise of political correctness and cutesy childish bullshit.

These are people who think cartoons will make sweeping political statements and tell people to kill themselves over stupid petty shit. They are not mature, rational adult people.

How can people care that much about drawings and cartoons...

Who cares how someone chooses to portray a certain character? These obsessive fans are difficult to understand.

Interpretation of a character is racist and racism is especially horrible (when it doesn't happen)!

Different interpretation of white characters is completely fine and should be encouraged though. :^)

Yep, same with sexuality. Its okay to make a canonically straight character Bi or Gay and should be encouraged. :V

All I have to say on this subject.

Tumblr users are not typically smart enough to ignore people within of their own fanbase. Fanbase rhymes with "safe space", after all. :^)

Surely other SU fans couldn't be horrible fucking people like those fucking pig cishets. OH WHOOPS, turns out they're actually sociopathic dipshits that are unfazed by telling people to kill themselves for trivial garbage.

So I looked through the imgur linked from the reddit, linked from the article, and I don't really get the "harshness" of it. It's people spewing their bullshit, but people do that.
I still don't get where it's worth a suicide attempt over.

And I say this as someone who deals with severe depression more frequently than some people go grocery shopping.

I hear she has mental issues. Not sure how much of that is true, but I'm sure if it's legit, it plays a factor in it.

I don't understand how Fluttershy looking Native American is offensive at all.

I really don't understand why people are offended when people want to dress Native American, but nobody is offended when people dress as Cowboys. Like if it's white culture, anybody can be white culture. But God forbid different cultures. What if some white kid thinks Native Americans are cool and wants to be Native American for Halloween? Is that seriously offensive?

I'm being a penguin this year, might as well say how dare you offend the nature of the penguin or whatever.

"Zamii revealed she had attempted suicide as a result of the online harassment she received."

I'm standing firm on my choice of quotation.

If you can't walk the fuck away from the screen, and the fucking INTERNET means that much to you, you've got some serious mental issues, and need therapy/counseling, medication, and some education.

To allow fucking words to have that much power over you demonstrates a massive lacking in the mental fortitude department.

Fuck. You. You do not know what their situation was. You do not know their family life or what they were going through in real life. The internet is the only escape some people have and by saying she needs "education" because of that makes you the biggest fucking cock I have ever met.

I find it funny you say that while having no clue about my own upbringing.

I grew up in an abusively alcoholic household, a completely fractured family, first in the podunk nowhere town of Plano, then in the hell-hole ghettos of Memphis, TN. I got guns in my face on a regular basis starting around age 11. I got expelled from school after school because I wasn't black and won any fight where I got picked upon. I've been in life and death situations, and I've been fucking DEAD, crushed by a truck.

Maybe I figured out how to develop a thick skin and not let stupid fucking words hold so much power over me when there are far, far, FAR fucking worse things out there than snide little shits on the internet with their 'words.'

With that, I turn your first two words back upon you, and add in 'you assumptive shit.' on top of it.

"Waaah, my life is harder than yours, therefore your experiences don't matter and didn't effect you like mine did!"
That's what you're trying to fucking say.
Just because you "had it harder" does not fucking mean that someone else's experiences aren't bad. Everyone is different. Everyone is set off by different shit. And by disregarding this shit as "real" because you had a rough childhood makes you an awful fucking human.

Yowie! The edges on that gave me a booboo!

And there are two types of internet harassment:

1. Someone calling you a lolfag for saying stupid shit.

2. An onslaught of harassment.

Zamii wqs harassed directly, indirectly and practically had a mob made out against her tarnishing her reputation as an artist. Imagine how shitty it has to be during the test of time to have people call you racist/homophobe/transphobe/fatphobe/ect SJW instawin words for every submission and comment you make? And blocking can only do so much with an ask box as well, seeing how a good slew of the hate she got was from anonymous posts.

When you factor in 40 blogs, a persostant mob of SJWs and a mental condition(?) into the mix of constantly shitting on your reputation as an artist that take commissions, that would wear on anyone. Ita like she was being allienated from enjoying a fandom she wanted to be a part of. So go ahead and toss up the edgelord response of "lol block n walk", because this situation is a bit more complex than that, especially when the hate was so unwarranted..

... I sympathize to the extent of having had bullying happen, but to let VIRTUAL shit get to you is why the common trademark across the web "taking the internet too seriously" exists.

Even you're taking the internet too seriously right now. Look at your vitriol. Better hold up that mirror a bit higher so you can get a full picture.

This seems like an egregious lack of empathy. Who gets to decide what the "acceptable" level of reaction is? Is it the person who is the most emotionally detached, the most stoic, the "toughest" who gets to decide how much people should care about one thing or another? Keep in mind, the absolute winner here is going to have some pretty severe personality problems. More importantly, why would anyone believe that every person, regardless of age, background, mental health, and social support, should have the same level of emotional response to anything?

Here we're talking about some relatively young person of unknown mental health who may or may not receive a significant portion of their social support online being targeted by a sustained harassment campaign. I can't see how responding by "Fuck em, shoulda been tougher" leads to anything but an ugly and unhealthy society that most people would not want anything to do with.
