I feel like geno does give us some important bits of characterization, aside from just the two great bossfights, that you don't really experience in other runs.

Namely Flowey's motivation for being a morally-depraved shitheel, lacking a soul notwithstanding.

Also, it's subtle, but the fact that Undyne uses sheer force of will to stay alive / revive herself, then melts after being beaten, says a lot after you finish True Lab and learn what determination does to a monster.

Alright. What about neutral run? Is that worth doing?

I don't know what really constitutes a "neutral" run, honestly. I got a few random monster kills in my first playthrough (including a few in Ruins), so I don't know what the real difference is unless you kill a few bosses too.

I love hard boss fights!

But those bosses are my friends...

Why does this existential masterpiece have to exist??? The genocide route is like Pandora's Box. I want to open it just to see what's in there, but there's no closing it

Just remember, you can always back up your save but you'll never be able to forget what you did.

That's the worst part...

I'll let it be for now. I'm afraid that I might be adversely affecting a miniature universe with my actions or something. Quantum mechanics or the game is made of high science fantasy technomagic or maybe we're all the gods of our own imaginations. I can't choose which rationale I want to go with, so all three? Regardless, I'm not killing all the monsters.

The neutral ending happens after you beat Flowey. Depending on your actions (mainly who you killed and who you left alive) you get a different phonecall at the end.

The relevant characters for this ending are Papyrus, Undyne, Mettaton and Toriel (if I remember correctly).

Honestly, compared to the true ending and the genocide ending it's not really worth it in my opinion.

The pacifist ending is more rewarding and gives you a TON of backstory and the genocide ending paints a clearer picture about Chara.

You know what's the best part about someone from Vinesauce playing Undertale? It results in tons of fanart on their booru site!

And I accidentally killed Lesser Dog on my current playthrough, forgetting they were a named character D: haha. This is extra relevant to me.

Finally decided to do a genocide run since I wanted to watch Joel from Vinesauce do it but felt like I needed to "experience" it myself first.

I'm watching the recording right now.

He is having a bad time in the bone zone.

By the way, is there any Nice Cream Guy/Burgerpants porn yet? :V Those two would be cute together.

Genocide run time. For this run, I decided to name my character appropriately.

Hitler.

I'm already at snowdin and robbed the store. The only real thing that made me feel anything about it so far is when Sans gave me that warning. That genuinely scared the bejesus out of me just from the how subtle it was.

edit: killing Papyrus is just depressing because of his optimism.

That's the beauty of the genocide run. You might go in thinking that it won't be so bad, "they are just characters in a video game!" But Toby wrote the game so well that after killing them you just want to drink yourself into a coma to forget what you have done... Especially after a pacifist run!

Edit: By the way, favorite quote from Joel's genocide run, after he got WRECKED by Sans: "Do I really have to fight Sans? Is Sans hard?"

At that point I felt sorry for him, he had no idea what he was in for :D

Meh, I stopped caring about it after grinding the waterfalls. Undyne was still pretty easy but I had to use food this time around, having 50+ HP meant nothing with the damage took. Only thing thats annoying is the bullets that move to the opposite direction. Just now I'm grinding Hotlands, which was probably the most fun due to it having the monsters I liked the most.

I'm debating working on a route for speedrunning the game. So I'm open to ideas. My favourite one atm involves the spider donuts and cider, but I'll keep it from spoiling.

Using the stick in battle against a dog enemy allows you to spare instantly.

That could probably work for it - I was thinking timewise, it would probably not be a pacifist run. It was designed to take time. The neutral route would make a lot more sense for ease. However, I feel starting of as a genocide then move it back into the neutral route could help, in order to skip puzzles. But I need to look at the sequence before I find a way to do it.

If we're posting fanart we like, this has been my favorite so far.

Spoilers for geno: (also warning for blood)

I just realized Sans was wearing slippers the whole time...wow I'm observant.

Wait, holy shit dude could you imagine the level of dunking if he just hauled his lazy ass over the shoe store and bought like some Jordan's or something? Fucker could have ended the fight like literally turn 1 with that level of slammin', Sans you fucking idiot, you could have saved the fucking world you lazy shit. Shit's making me legit steamed.

He could have saved the world if he just did his job as he was supposed to. Just saying. (if there's other reasons for why he doesn't stop you at the forest, which aren't revealed in Neutral/Pacifist, don't tell me. I haven't finished Pacifist yet)

You haven't completed a pacifist or neutral run? At any rate he explains it in an optional scene towards the end, if you've done it then you know what I'm talking about probably.

I've finished Neutral twice (hard reset due to an oops.. hah) and am working my way through Pacifist now.
Ah... So yeah, that's what I was thinking of. I still stand by my statement, then.

I added the extra bit in case more is revealed in a Genocide run on why he didn't stop you earlier, like if he had other motivations besides Toriel asking him to protect you.

Also, my "oops" was killing Flowey. I missed his commentary </3

Well when you fight Sans at the end of a genocide run (which isn't even really a spoiler at this point is it?)...

he gives a lot of insight into his character as well as his motivations for most of his behavior in every path while fighting you, and as you'd probably come to expect at this point, it's pretty meta and mindfucky. Eventually he does give a straight answer to your question, which just kinda makes the whole fight and really the game overall more tragic.

TL;DR: Bad times for everyone.

It is for me xP
I've been almost religiously avoiding spoilers. I know you fight him, I know what his theme is called, but I've never actually experienced either in any way. If I wasn't going out later today, I'd probably run through my pacifist run today (I COULD finish it off today.. heh) but alas, that isn't an option.

Oh. Well all I can say is save every really good healing item for the end (instant noodles, butterscotch pie, etc.), and prepare your anus since you're gonna need all the butterscotch-flavored lube you can get.

Just a small thing, but it's not Actually San's theme. It's the players theme when San's has to fight the player. At least that's the popular opinion anyway.

ALSO here, have a thing. This guy does some awesome voice acting for the skelebros and all the Undertale characters.

Personally, I just love the game all the way around.

Just pointing this out, Undertale has sold over 200.000 copies on Steam (+/- 11.848) according to SteamSpy. So if we keep in mind that Steam takes a 30% cut from the profits and that Toby is also selling the soundtrack through Steam AND that he is selling DRM free copies of both of them outside of Steam it is pretty safe to assume that he is a millionaire by now, even if he shared some of the profits with those who helped him in some way.

I think he earned it! :3

I wonder if he will buy himself a car similar to Papyrus' bed. That would be funny.
