iD Software straight up ripped off the Brutal Doom mod that's been around for years with that one. Brutal Doom is what Doom 3 should have been.

It's possible Brutal Doom was an inspiration but Brutal Doom hardly did it's thing first, Serious Sam 3 did. :/

Maybe you could even argue that the original Doom did it first because you had the berserker pack where you punched people so hard they turned into a gory mess, and it had a chainsaw.

If I remember correctly Brutal Doom was also inspired by the infamous Doom comic book, and anyone who's read that will understand.

Brutal Doom is great, but hardly original.

Serious Sam 3: 11/22/2011

Brutal Doom: 2010.

The lines and taunts you hear in-game are indeed pretty much straight from the infamous comic.

BD was meant to take Doom up to the level of hyper-violent hype that it was unfairly given back during Columbine, as the creator Sgt Mark IV felt it truly was not violent enough given the hype of 'Murder simulator.'

Huh, you know more than me. I will admit I am beaten.

Still, new Doom looks like a blast and maybe you'll find more proper multiplayer matches there than in the old ones. When I look for games on Internet Doom Explorer or Doomseeker I only see people playing game modes I don't like.

Plus, Doom 4 just looks super retro. Doesn't even have reloading! Fucking Doom 3 and Brutal Doom had reloading.

I have doubts, of course, but I'm optimistic for now. Also, Snapmap looks like it would add a new element of fun.

I've seen some decent mods coming out. Survivalism (Doom+DayZ+MineCraft) Complex Doom Invasion, Shotgun Frenzy. RGA would be nice if people could pick some different map packs instead of the typical Hell Revealed and Alien Vendetta garbage.

I don't even like that, though. Maybe I'm a traditionalist but I'm more into deathmatch, team deathmatch, CTF, those kinda things. Survival is not quite my thing but it'll be interesting to see how that can be implemented with Snapmap.

I've been killing time on Team Fortress 2 and Skyrim. Mainly TF2 though because my Skyrim's been falling apart recently due to me modding it then trying to apply a multiplayer mod to it, I can't be bothered reinstalling it so I'm gonna rip a bunch of the stuff that's making it crash and stuff out of the Skyrim folder.

Also I'm planning on buying War for the Overworld soon. It's pretty much a spiritual successor to Dungeon Keeper which looked fun but sadly I missed it , so now I'm just gonna get the next best thing.

Yet more Darkest Dungeon. I wish I knew other people who had it so I could sperge about it with them.

What are some good turn-based RPGs on Steam? I didn't like FTL much and it's hard to find games that aren't weeaboo shit.

Original Fallout games. Wasteland is another good one. The Shadowrun games are oustandingly good, and I'd also recommend Chroma Squad, it's surprisingly fun.

If you have New Vegas, I suggest looking up "A Tale of Two Wastelands". It's a sweet mod that combines Fallout 3 and New Vegas into one massive game.

While I do have NV for this crappy laptop (running it on lowest settings since it ain't built for gaming :c) I have F3 for the PS3 only. It's a pity: would have loved gunning baddies down naked like I do in NV haha

Ouch. That sucks a bit, but eh. Vanilla F3 is plenty fun on its own! I've thought of installing it again and doing a minimal-mods playthrough. Or at least one with only high quality mods that only add stuff.

Say, I might get a gaming rig at some point and F3 with it. Do you have any mods to recommend?

Aside from the one I already mentioned, Fellout adds a bit of greenery and atmosphere to it. Mart's Monster Mod, too. GNR Enhanced or Expanded or whatever it's called adds a ton of new songs to Galaxy News, too, so that's a good one as well. Honestly, I recommend just browsing over this: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/top/?

Most of the mods that aren't catering to people with extreme libidos and no access to porn, are worth taking a look at. I believe there might be one that adds a bunch of new radio stations, but I can't find it right now.

Oh man, get ready to look up a walk-through for the last 15-25% of the game because some of those puzzles are not worth solving.

ill try my best not to for the time being. If I'm burned out before then, I'll get to reading the walkthrough.

So I'm playing sleeping dogs right now. Trying to finally finish it.

Having a good giggle with a friend who's a Dark Souls virgin, playing co-op and ensuring he loses his anal virginity without lube by taking him through EVERY little side-area of Sen's Funhouse (and tomorrow when we resume he's going to meet the mimic without forewarning) ;P

I am playing Shadow of Mordor and the nemesis system, although great, is also absolutely infuriating.

I was doing a quest when I got jumped by over a dozen uruks. I managed to kill all of them except one, and I was just barely holding onto my last few hp, when this fuckface captain I left for dead named Krakhorn Scar Artist shoots me in the fucking head with his crossbow. He merely killed me while I was weak, and he gets promoted to elite captain as his stats skyrocket. I swear revenge on the skinny pale bastard.

I spend 20 minutes hiking to an unexplored, higher level fortress to which I have tracked him. I run in and stab him in the eye, killing him, and run out of the fortress with a mass of uruks chasing me like the low-level coward I am.

Not five minutes later, I encounter several large beast guys whom I have never seen before, and one of them hits me for roughly 80% of my health. As I am running away, I get shot in the back. The screen pans to.... fuckface Krakhorn Scar Artist from earlier that dirty fucker I just killed you wtf why are you back you sneaky shitbag! He has a big hunk of metal covering where his eye used to be, along with a bunch of metal plates in places where flesh was previously present. He gets reinstated as elite captain, and his stats go up again. He's now far and away the uruk army's strongest captain, he has like twice as much power as the next highest captain. Fuck me.

So then I get a side mission, where Krakhorn is about to undergo a Trial by Ordeal - I have the opportunity to ambush him while he is in the middle of fighting a scary monster. Main quests be damned, I am doing this fucking side mission and putting this limp-dicked cheapass into the ground. Even if I am a cheapass myself.

I get to the arena and hide on a ledge. The plan is to let Krakhorn wear himself out fighting, and then swoop in and kill him when he is low on health.

He kills the monster in one hit. Fuck. He gains a power level. Double fuck. His goons climb on the ledge to kill me, but I am ~2 stories off the ground, so I spam the attack button until I knock them off the ledge. Heck yes, I am such a pro. Krakhorn is the last one up. He must be confused with his guards strewn across the ground below. I stun him with a drain spell, then grab him, interrogate him, and finish him off by stabbing him in his other eye.

Like a half an hour later, I encounter a lone figure on the road. It's Krakhorn, again. But I don't recognize him - he has a fucking burlap sack over his head where his face used to be. I am not sure how he saw me, since I am pretty sure he is blind. I will never forget his words:

"I hate you for what you have done to me."

At this point, I'm feeling a little bad. But then I stab him in the face again teehee. According to a guide I read, he is still alive because I did not decapitate him, so perhaps he will exact revenge on me someday. And when that time comes, I will be waiting. On a ledge. In an obscure location. Where I perform some game-breaking mechanic to make the fight blatantly unfair in a way not imagined by the developers.

Needed something to unwind a bit, de-stress. So I picked up Pillars of Eternity. I've put in a little over two hours so far, so I haven't really gotten into the story yet, but I'm already getting immersed in the universe. The influences of Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights are obvious, which, given the fact it's basically a love letter to the old Infinity games, makes sense. The visuals are pretty nice, too. Nothing spectacular, but they stuck to a style that's true to its influences while giving it a touch of modernity.

Just bought AC: Black flag. I hope I won't regret it D:

I doubt you will. If you enjoy it, Rogue is a pretty good "sequel" to it. Takes many of the elements, including the naval element, and gives you some new locations that are closer to AC3.

it's the pirates of the caribbean disney never made. I'm sure you'd enjoy it. It's a fresh take on the series. Tho personally I hated the naval thing. It's too complicated for my good understanding.
