Sorry, our lord as savfur (at this current point in time) is already a Giraffe. Not joking.

I realized that five minutes in and the video is cringey:c I get its a joke but some mentally-unstable person is going to have that joke go over their head and take it seriously

Im scared

That's just it, I'm not sure if it is a joke. D:

The dude made that up on the fly and he's a speaker at anthrocon, a joke in itself, what more of a joke can you get?

Thats not to say it wont explode into some creepy subculture demanding religious rights...

Oh, it's sarcastic. I thought it was going to be some poor soul who was deluded.

It's definitely a joke...for anybody who is wondering. It's a comedy criticising the practice of affording religious people special privileges other people are normally not allowed to have.

I definitely know of people who do think they want their furry identity to have spiritual significance. They're called 'Otherkin' and they, bizarrely, think that they were animals in previous lives and retain that fundamental condition even now. They're pretty nuts.

Read the YouTube comment section and video annotation. People are really buying into this.

Separating the sheep from the goats has a whole new meaning now.

Are you certain they're not pretending?

Oh jeez I hope they are. Comments being on approval only (at least that's what the annotation says) and a comment stating the uploaders defensive position on the matter says otherwise.

They're either kidding, or not right in the head.

Knowing furries, not right in the head.

This guy is the best. This is exactly what I needed to wake up to.

It was obviously a joke, but of course a few will take it seriously. However people have been trying to be recognized as their sonas forever, I doubt this'll make much of a difference.

So it doesn't bother you that it's a possibility?

The fandom doesn't revolve around any kind of deity (unless you take Kage into consideration), but look at what they managed to do with Scientology. Somehow I doubt turning the fandom into some type of organized religion could be any worse.

It's kinda fucked up really because so many devote themselves to the fandom wholly, so it does beg the question if there would be any benefits to it.

Does anybody know whose fursona is in the background? I think it looks cool and want to find the fur affinity page.

I think it's in the description. If not, just ask.

The fandom isn't going to become a religion, lol.

I did check the youtube description, but can't find it. I'm not sure if it just happens to be the anthrocon logo and hence isn't a real person.

That entire Uncle Kage = Scientology article is total bullshit.  Kage's influence on the fandom outside of the bounds of Anthrocon is negligible.  He occasionally gets put in front of cameras because he can formulate complete sentences without saying 'Penis'.  He's never made any effort to influence the fandom outside of his convention and he doesn't have the power to do so if he were to try.  Honestly, Dragoneer has more power over the fandom with his ability to break artists at will with a few key strokes should he so choose.

1) You don't actually have to believe in the religion, or the things it claims, to belong to it (look at Catholicism, har har)

2) The tax benefits alone from this would be tremendous. Your $3,000 fursuit purchase can be a tax deduction, and the entire Mecca that is Anthrocon would be entirely tax free for the con organizers. You could also be ordained as a minister (as I'm sure Kage and 2 will be), and then any donation you give to the Church of Furry will be tax deductible, and that same amount that they then give right back to you for "ministry expenses" will be tax free. You can donate $100 a month, receive that money back, and use it to buy all your furry porn commissions tax free!

So, yeah, I'd be all for it :D
