Chinona
So was looking at the black market...I know that it's a copy paste of the FAF one but is it possible to maybe update the rules? LIke instead of $5 USD have it $5 country of origin? Or possibly dropping that entirely? I mean if someone wants to sell dollar doodles...As I know I can't sell some of my art because Its at $5 but it's not USD so it's under the limit (I do that to keep from having to deal with Foreign currency on my tax returns and I don't overly want to figure out how much my price has to be per day really for an icon seems weird - since it changes regularly and I'm lazy.)Also possibly updating it so it's not reading all of the this site and the main site for banning etc? Just as a thought.
Taralack
Nope. 5USD is the baseline. Just do the conversion. We're not budging on this. The limit was put in place for a reason and I'm not about to undo the years of good that it's done for that section. The forum rules are being rewritten currently and will be posted soon. Chinona
Alright I'm fine with that but can I ask then if posting 'price/invoice amount will be Canadian Equivelant of US amount listed' would be acceptable?Since the rules state I have to give a price however that will constantly change and editing is limited to 20 minutes atm from what I can tell, and the price will end up at times being a notable amount more and I don't want people thinking it's along the lines of 'charging to cover Paypal fees'
VLZerda
The editing issue is probably just temp, but as far as your prices go don't worry about what others think. You have to consider the time and effort you spend making your art. Minimum wage is 7.25/hr in most of the US, not sure what it is there, but if your spending at least an hour and a half on an image then selling something for under $5 usd is really selling yourself short. I keep my prices semi low, but I know how much time I will spend on an image. I sold two ych for just around 21 dollars, but I spent almost 40 hours altogether, that was roughly 50 cents per hour, and the amount of materials used were definitely not covered in the final price. Yes, it's a little different when you're doing digital, but the idea should still be applied.

If I have to price in american money the exchange rate is what is going to be constantly changing not my prices - but if I can't post a hard number I have to be able to post SOMETHING so people know why the numbers they are getting aren't the same ones that are listed ($5 USD at the price would be 6.67 Canadian today... In may it would have been $6.00). I certainly am not worried about most of my prices but I don't like paying governments for stuff they don't earn.I'm a tattoo artist. Trust me I know about pricing my art. I also have a chartered Accountant that has made it clear accepting foreign currency for art makes me need to pay more taxes to a government entity - sooo I have to charge in Canadian so that I don't have to deal with extra taxes on top of my normal tax payments because they will make me pay extra on foreign currency on income tax after I submit PST and GST. Summercat
Why not just inflate your bottom line so that your lowest charge comes out to... 6.50 USD? Less worry in the short run.
Chinona
*sigh*OKAYIn CANANDAWe pay PST and GST on money we make if we are a registered business (as a tattoo artist I am a registered business so any money coming in I pay where I live 13 percent tax ON TOP OF the paypal fee. THIS IS FINE. I am okay with this really a $5 commission is chump change it's filler between large commissions when I don't have an appointment at my tattoo shop and I can't work on say a $2000 fursuit because fur and tattoo shops do not mix.IF however I get it in US funds, or the Euro... OR ANY OTHER CURRENCY I have to pay an extra to the government.I do not want to charge in anything other than Canadian Currency because HUMOROUSLY it's a legal work around to that extra on those fees. Doesn't matter if it comes from somewhere else as long as the invoice states CDN. I do not claim to understand taxes. It's why I have a CA. The CA tells me the legal work arounds and if they screw up they are liable and I can go after them if I really need to because I will not be Denzel Washington. This is not about at this point: My art prices I'm happy with them I make good money off of them. (and above minimum wage on all of them I might add per hour)If I want to charge 6.50 USD because I have to charge 6.50 Canadian to make $5 american Seriously at this point I just want to know if 'PRICES ARE LISTED IN AMERICAN DOLLARS - INVOICES WILL BE PROVIDED IN CANADIAN DOLLAR AT CURRENT EXCHANGE AS OF INVOICE' Is an acceptable work around to the USD rule since I want to charge Canadian prices in the end. Since Taralack has made it clear the rules about the whole $5 US are not changing. So on here I might as well do USD across the board with that announcment to save issues with the back and forth in case the Canadian dollar plummets to say 49 cents again... at which point my animated icons don't cover $5 american at 7.50 Because $5 isn't a lot of extra fees... But say.... $2000 for a fursuit???? the fees on that are a bit more substantial and seriously who wants to pay the tax men extra no matter where they are if there is a legal and safe work around???? VLZerda
I think your idea would be good for you. Though maybe something to be conversed with the client in specific, of look this amount in Canadian = this amount in USD. Put the notice out there that $5 minimum usd will be converted to x amount in canadian but the specifics will be covered in private messages. Taralack
If you don't already, you should start sending your customers invoices via Paypal, that way you control what currency they pay you in. That would literally solve all your problems.

That would literally solve all your problems. This is the only way to conduct professional business. Don't rely on your customers to figure out the conversion; that burden is on you. All your costumer needs to do is pay up. You work out fees and what not, and raise prices accordingly. As a bonus, you no longer get paid in Yen when you ask for USD! Taralack
And don't get the "This is to pay for the two foxes fucking each other while a badger looks on" message that can get you shut down. They can still add a message when paying via invoice, so if you get dumb people there's still no escaping that
Kaedal
They can still add a message when paying via invoice, so if you get dumb people there's still no escaping thatBut you still weed out the absolute worst of them by a percentage. You won't be immune, but you'll have a stronger defense against them.
