Obsessive people

Ain't it always the way? You hop onto your DA/FB whatever you post art on and you get all excited to see a request in you private messages.

Then you find out that they want something really weirdly specific and going to their account to see what kinda person you're dealing with yields picture after picture of shitty ms paint Disney characters in pajamas getting their feet tickled by tentacles, or the characters of the PBS show "Arthur" gaining weight with their dads.  And I mean it's NOTHING but that. That perfect combo of bad ms paint art, weird possibly-sexual-possibly-not theme and beloved children's characters. As much as I know these people are probably harmless there's something really off putting about how obsessive they are that makes me not want to ever give them any art and block them from sending me messages in the future.

I don't care if it's mean, that kind of obsessiveness is unsavory dammit! It's not limited to the furry fandom either, I get more of these requests FA than I do on it surprisingly enough.

It's not like I won't draw outside of my comfort zone, but this is waaaaay beyond what I'm comfortable with.

I wouldn't even say it's exclusive to art, I knew a guy who was really into sonic the hedgehog, to the point that there was sonic the hedgehog paraphernalia wall to wall in his room. I had to stop hanging around him because he couldn't put Sonic down for ten minutes, even to watch a movie. He was like a junkie who needed that fix.

Anyone else wanna weigh in on this?  You guys ever run into those creepily obsessed types and wanna run for the hills?

I draw porn. I have to regularly fend off these types. These types also tend to have like, no money, so I wonder what the correlation is there.

This last one tried to offer me an art trade in exchange for art of gassy FNAF characters farting while on all fours. Their ms paint blobs hold no interest to me! I can get better art from my 6 year old sister.

My band teacher in high school was like this about spiderman.

Somehow he managed to acquire a college education, a wife who tolerated his obsession, and two children, and his house has an entire room dedicated to aforementioned obsession. I think he's 'high functioning' though since he does care about other things and can have fun with non-spiderman related stuff, just. An entire room of his house.

Says the fennec fluff who used to have a star wars or star trek everything when they were younger, including a wall mural.

My dad's kinda like this with Marvel and DC comics, but he has too much responsibility and too much time on his hands to do anything about it other than maybe watch a movie or two.

I wonder if some of these accounts are secret second accounts that are specifically for that fetish. So the user can keep it separate and secret from their main and therefor not experience any guilt/shame/whatever if anyone sees their fetish on their main account. lol

Anyway though, it is kinda creepy/weird to know there's people out there for whom there's only one ultra-specific fetish that turns them on and nothing else. Although I imagine it must get boring after a while but there's nothing they can do about it because they can't get turned on by anything else.

I'm no artist but since I do like to look at all the cool stuff on DA this is something I still run into here and then. Yes its detestable of course tell me something I don't already know however you have to realize that when you have anonymity on the internet people tend to be much more loose with what they say. Wish I could offer some sort of good advice but really the best I have is to keep a healthy positive attitude in all this. That is appreciate the good things people do say in true admiration of the art for what it is instead of focusing on the more questionable comments

The problem I have with people like this is that usually, you get a PM asking for free art - that's fine, they're probably just testing the water to see if you're willing to do a thing for them, right? I might even have the time to do something possibly.

Click on the message to find they've written a literal NOVEL on what they want you to draw. They haven't even established whether or not I'm prepared to do ANYTHING for them yet! And they've just jumped in with this SUPER SPECIFIC creepy ass bestiality porn request. I know better than to think they sat there for 2 hours and typed all this out just for me, it's clear they copy and paste it to every artist they can find in the hopes they get SOMETHING. They might even have it saved to their computer so they can copy it back up again the next day and try again.

There's just... there's no attempt to try and form any rapport, no attempt to try and follow normal social protocols that make people warm up to each other, just... PLOP, here's my porn request, thank you! There's NOTHING in my gallery that would make them even like, 1% confident that I'd even consider this. They just send it to everyone without even looking at their existing stuff. It's just quite rude IMO.

This pretty much exactly. Sometimes if I don't reply to them they come back after a week and repost the exact same message until I give them a resounding "no".

There is no actual attempt to communicate and it's rare that I'm offered anything at all, and when they do offer it's always "art trade". Problem with that is that their art is usually so bad that even their grandma wouldn't tape it to her fridge,

wait

wait a fucking minute

I had a request like this once

he wanted me to draw his weirdly proportioned character that looked exactly like all his others

I was somewhat disturbed

It seems that this is a disturbing trend and a lot more common than I initially thought.

I've had the opposite problem. I buy a lot of original art at comic book and anime conventions. I've never had a problem with any of the artists. I ask for something simple and they say okay and I pay. Then I come back to their table later and pick up the art.

At the furry con sometimes it isn't that simple. I've looked at artists samples and seen some cool stuff. So I ask for something simple.

Then I'm hit by a barrage of questions asking me to describe every tiny detail of what I want. Then when I say "whatever you think looks cool" they get upset. I mean all the way down to fingernail colour. Which I think is a bit obsessive as far as detail goes. Or they ask me if what I want is my fursona and when I say "no" they start asking me why I want a drawing that isn't my fursona.

However, I've also met some other artists at the convention who are really nice and easy going. But the whole obsessive things seems to go both ways with some people.

I hear these stories often, but have never experienced it for myself. I barely ever get requests, but I'm always being asked about commissions. Sucks for them I don't do either! Hohoho
BUT, the peoples are always pretty mannered towards me. Super nice, actually.
Also - no, I don't get excited over a PM request. Lame.

Exampled Hewge Request Experience:

Anon: "Hey, man! Your art is so awesome... I like it a lot! I have a small request, could you draw an otter with a big dong, mayhaps?"
Hewge:
"Well, otters and big dongs are fantastic... But the answer is a no. Hewge does not take to doing the requests. Sorry!"
Anon: "Oh, that's fine. Just wanted to ask. Keep up the awesome arts though! :3"

*Proceeds to draw a big donged otter a few days later anyways*

I thought this thread was gonna be about me for some reason and I was intensely worried. Instead I am relieved because I too have dealt with people like this. I once had some dude try to request this fucking monolith of text for his super specific fetish. Of course, I said no.

Don't worry, as a rule I typically won't make a thread aimed at a specific person. You and me, we cool ;)

we should all start a club. "I've had weirdos solicit me for bizarre fetish art"

 only @Hewge can't be a member. I am not lame hewge!!! D8<

I usually get them in public regarding fursuits and wanting one so badly that they'd murder their mother for one.

I'd do the same if it were the only way I'd get any sex :V

Murder your mother to get with a fursuiter... This sounds pretty sick, but that's an Oedipus complex I can actually relate to.
