The Great Red Update!

Hello! We have been working on this for a while, and now we’re ready to share with you all!

WE NOW HAVE AN 18+ AREA OF THE FORUMS!

Here goes your lewds, your buyage of lewds, and your general art discussion of the NSFW nature. Or really just anything NSFW. Hookers and blow, what gets your jollies off, whatever. We don't care. You can frolic in your debauchery there! People who would prefer to not see that content are now free to peruse without the heavy sexual under or even overtones on the forums that may have pushed you away.

There are only a few rules that are changing/updating with this update. For one, With this update, the rest of the forums are now SFW! Lets call it 15+ since we're not gonna ask you to quit cussing. That'd be fucking dumb. ; )

For the first few weeks, adjusting will take some time, so if you make a blunder, you’ll just have stuff moved/hidden and we’ll let you know! After a month from now, July 24, posting NSFW threads/posts will receive an infraction.

>> TO GET ADDED TO THE RED LANTERN, PLEASE FILL OUT THIS FORM <<

If you have complications, please contact @Zeke,
as she's the only member of staff currently with ability to add people to the adults subgroup.

Inside the 18+ Area we have:

  1. THE BIGGER, BLACKER MARKET - the nsfw version of our beloved black market, where you can buy and sell your wildest fantasies.
  2. The Lusty Argonian Maid - the nsfw version of our rp lion's den.
  3. Lewds, Lewds, Lewds - NSFW Art discussion! Within LLL there's a request thread for our moochers.
  4. And anything else that doesn't go in the above is filtered into the red lantern itself!

FAQ:

  • How do I see the Red Lantern?
    • Please fill out the forum above, and then a moderator will PM you that you have access. Mind you, you must have a minimum of 69 post across the forum in order to see/post inside. Please do not hassle the staff about access until you meet the minimum post requirements. Be patient, guys. You gotta take us on a few dates before you expect us to put out.
  • What Happens to NSFW Threads that aren't in the Red Lantern?
    • They are moved to the Red Lantern with no penalties.
  • What Happens if I find a NSFW thread?
    • PM Us so we can move it!
  • What if I don't want to see NSFW content even though I'm 18 plus?
    • That's okay! Its Opt in!
  • What are the updates to the general site going to be?
    • Posting threads about fetishes, porn, basically anything that gets your jollies off will be regulated to The Red Lantern. Even discussion about sexy stuff goes there. Keep the rest of the forums as sfw as you can.
  • What about the black hole?
    • Black Hole is now 15+ same as everything else.
  • What if someone's in the Red Lantern that is not 18?
    • Well, if you were dumb enough to let us find out, obviously the minor will be kicked from the group.
  • What is NOT allowed in the Red Lantern?
    • Cub, Beastiality, IRL NSFW pictures of any poster or a poster's nsfw items, and soliciting sex from users. That is not changing and that is final.
  • What about posts that are NSFW?
    • Those will be hidden with a friendly message from one of us.
  • Can you embed NSFW In The Red Lantern, without an age locked link?
    • YES. We only ask for you to spoiler the image with a warning of what it is.

Well, that's that!  If you have any questions, please let us know!

To be the paranoid of the forum:

Google form? Meh google...

Also, will that data stay strictly mod-only knowledge? (So, general pop only sees that a user has the 18+ membership, unless said user decides to disclose his age)

Its anonymous, so the only thing we store is what you put in. And I'm not bored enough to say, "psst, Toboe is actually 34 years old" or whatever. ; )

Mod only. The month and year's only for our reference. If you are in, it obviously means you are 18 or over.

The google part remains... but whatever. Let's watch that trainwreck.

Edit: And suddenly the site looks different. (used to use the dark one)

Though it is fitting that there is much more white, now that i am in the 18+ group...

Also: i can't post to the Site Discussion board anymore.

In the dropdown for adding a person to the group, Members and Members would have been hard to discern. Originally we had it at "Members+" for the adults, but it seemed like a weird, ""premium""area of the site. Zeke suggested that Members was for the adult area, and members for regulars.

That makes sense.

Because having a golden color is fun. :V

I'm fine with the color, but ambiguity is going to confuse new users. Dividing up the forum by privilege is only a good idea when its purpose is clearly communicated to dispel any connotations of an elitist grouping.

When creating the group (Which is just another copy of members, save for permissions), we didn't want it to be too obvious and to no choose colors already selected for other groups (Like red for banned). The idea was to identify and grant permissions for the 18+ area in the back end. Adding the + also seemed too elitist as if there were special benefits on the forum aside from seeing the porn area. That and having two members to pick from with either both having an uppercase or lowercase letter would make it confusing since there's no color difference when selecting the drop down of member groups.

I see your point, and if changing it back to white would help, I can do that.

Why are we hiding the fact that we have an adults group and an adults area? It makes no sense! I am very much opposed to making it some obscure faq thing or something you have to ask about; it can only create confusion.

Orange is close enough!

Or we split Member

into

Member (new)

Member (regular)

new: < 100 rep

regular >= 100 rep

Good lord, no! (I know you're joking, but still.)

If you want to get technical...

Come to think of it, if we are going to go by colors, it would only make sense to have regular-access members colored too. Otherwise it's just as "premium" looking as "Members+"

Even if my yellow thingy looks cool as shit, it's not like having access to a porn section is a badge of honor anything.

EDIT: Also, I wonder if it wouldn't make some users self-conscious to so obviously have opted out...

Or, conversely self conscious to have opted in!

But it's kinda cool, 'cause now I can go down and see who's on, and what ones are naughty and are not afraid to let everyone know.

All in all, I'm just glad the 18+ feature is here. I think it's a wonderful idea, and will probably attract more members.

Why can't everything be the same as it was before, except maybe the 18+ users have like a slightly darker shade of white? This doesn't have to be some big deal.

Or grey for grey muzzles :V

But really I'm fine with colors when its purpose is clearly indicated as it would be when specifically stating 'Adults' or even 'Certified Adult' if we're worried about regular members who are old enough but don't want access being mistaken as not adult just because they don't have the tag.

to be honest i kinda get the feeling this is going to explode into splitting hairs.

just put down the thing endless mentioned and instead of making users have to run on implications that don't exist, just make it easy for them to be held accountable for not getting what's up instead of trying to make a perfect implication-less system.

anything will have implications after a while.

or just do whatever you want, honestly. just don't get semantic about this. it's just a thing that exists, and decisions made arbitrarily about it will just add stress to all of it.

I still say just putting "Adult" would work, but like, after a certain point no one is going to be fucking happy. Keep it Members vs members, maybe change the color so that's the same as a regular member. There's gonna be adults who don't wish to opt in.

You shouldn't feel guilty for not wanting to opt in to the area. No one is making you do anything you dont want to do. Christ.

@Zeke Since it seems, based on your earlier post, it's possible to have two groups with the same label, (or does the forum software require them to be distinct by at least case?) Why not have two groups labelled 'Adult' that people can opt to join. They fill out the little *shutter* Google form, at the bottom of which there is an opt-in question "Do you wish to view NSFW forum sections?" The user's choice remains with the mod team and nobody can tell the difference, but we still have a distinction for users who are at least eligible to view these materials and do so without ambiguity as to its purpose for new users.

Though it still doesn't solve the problem the mods would have in the difficulty of selecting them. Hrmm...

One comment on the styles side. As it stands, the default "members" group cannot be properly separated from the others with CSS because it is inheriting the default forum text color. Were this group to have a color explicitly set, similarly to "Members" or "Moderators", then both user group titles and colors could be customized through userstyles.
