If only stopping this were a simple setting change away.

And yes, I like twiddling with settings a bit too much. Yes, I like Linux.

Holy shit, you guys

Visiting the Google 'My Activity' page is fucking sobering. It lists all of my habits, activities and behaviour patterns. Every single day

Googol.jpg

It even categorises the forums into 'Furry Fandom', so any old knob with power could go snooping and find out loads of shit about me

It also shows me all the dumb memes I wasted my life watching

I visited mine and actually it's not that bad.

I thought it would be full of weird porn, but it actually just shows that I google for furry forums, check the spellings of long words and look up scientific journals.

It's not one small thing in particular. I just feel that in today's culture people have lost any sort of spirituality and supplanted it with vapid consumerism and feel-good ideologies. It's like narcissism is the hot new religion.

It's seems really weird that I feel this way, being a agnostic and all, but I'm really uncomfortable with where our culture is heading. It's noticable how our collective morality (Westerners in particular) has shifted due to the lack of spiritualism and the rapid advancement of technology. I think that people are placing more value in social approval for it's own sake and are expressing themselves through their spending habits. I hate to sound like an old man harping on left-wingers, but the rise of slacktivism and "SJW" culture perfectly represent the sort of empty materialism and phony sentimentality that disturbs me. I'm using the far-left as an example because the left seems particularly materialistic. For example, of see a leftist and rightist arguing over something like immigration policy, the left-winger will immediately make arguments regarding economics or some sort of arbitrary secular morality, which is, by definition, materialistic. The right-wingers definitely aren't exempt from this, but it's just a little bit more apparent in the left. I probably shouldn't delve into how I think consumerism is destroying cultures across the globe.

I'm probably incoherent right now. I'm having a pretty hard time articulating my feelings on this subject without rambling too much. It's difficult to succinctly explain this.

I'd love to hear your opinion on this if I made any sense. You seem to be a bit more educated than I am and your input would probably be interesting.

Just ignore this effortpost if it came across as retarded rambling.

I feel like a lot of social expectations have melted away over time actually, because the past was a surprisingly repressive place; I am still surprised that the UK was chemically castrating gay men after world war 2, for example. I'm glad that I live in a period of history which is comparatively free and where we can be ourselves without fear of social or legal reprisal.

I agree that a lot of people obsess over their material wealth, but I think that's a problem as old as civilisation.

Thanks for the reply.

Eh, I wasn't trying to idealize the past. I think it's wonderful that we've made so much social progress more or less due to secularism, but I'm afraid that in today's world we may lose our grip on a broader sense of morality due to the fact that there's no unifying moral or ethical code and the development of modern technology. Social networking has allowed people to become more insular than ever and has further eroded any broader sense of morality that once allowed people to more or less coexist. I think this is plainly apparent due to the widening gap between the left and the right. The decay of morality enables people to do things that would once be considered unacceptable (ex. assualting nonviolent people with opposing views) and the rise of social media has only further divided people.

What if we start trying to make progress for progress's sake and wind up causing irreparable social harm just because it feels good to wear our ideology on our sleeves while we virtue signal? Nobody seems interesting in having deeper, introspective discussions on today's issues anymore.

Please give me your perspective. I'll lose my mind if I don't get other people's opinions on things like this. Most people hate talking about this stuff.

You can't get to sleep because you found a damn good song that energized your brain through rhythm magic.

It's the only logical explanation.

The magic of Spotify, my friend.

You listen to an artist, then it recommends 5 similar ones

And each of those 5 similar artists have a further 5 related artists

Then you embark on a wondrous adventure of discovering and rediscovering music until it's so late in the morning that you're hungry for breakfast

Praise convenience

Which values typify the broad sense of morality you would like people to retain? I don't think there's been an increase in politically motivated assault; I'm actually heartened to see that so many people frown upon such violence even when the victim of the assault is a neo-Nazi like Richard Spencer; it takes a lot of civility to defend the rights even of political groups that are universally and justifiably despised.

I agree that technology has opened up new moral questions; I find it disappointing that people use frankly miraculous communications technology to spread conspiracy theories, redistribute copyrighted material and troll each other. It feels like a wasted opportunity to me. ...but at least people also use it to spread salacious furry art. :3
Regarding politics, it is the rise of populism that worries me, because even left-leaning parties in Europe now enact policies such as banning Islamic clothing.

I agree there are people whose calls for what they think is social progress are are counter productive, for example the 'Rhodes must fall' movement to remove a statue of Cecil Rhodes (a colonialist and mineral tycoon) from Oxford University's high street was misguided in my view, because tyrants' marks on history remind us of their mistakes and their self-aggrandisement; our cultural heritage is morally grey.
The statues destroyed by the Islamic state in Nimrud belonged to the Neo-Assyrian empire, which flayed men alive and burnt children and yet I still decry the destruction of their cultural artifacts.

Had a look at the minecraft forge documentation and seemed to understand roughly the example code things on the site

There are a great deal of interfaces used for various things but I haven't found the list of what to call when you need x doing.

However if I did take up programming again I'd have no room in my life for drawing furry and fantasy stuff.

Wow, that's great! Congratulations, Chaos. What do you plan to study? Does this involve a move?

I had such a great time when I went away to college, some of the most amazing, fun, crazy years ever, and also ones where I got to read a great deal, and be exposed to a lot of new things. Having grown up in a very remote, isolated part of northern Michigan, it was like a different word.

Huh, if I could have found a way, I would have just liked to stay a college student, forever. Now I work at a university, and it's curious to see the successive waves of new arrivals, and wondering what will happen to them all, as time passes...

My major is computor science and it would involve me moving to the other side of the state, more than three hours away. Thats assuming that my parents would be willing to pay for everything. If everything works out, then Im thinking about sometimes doing one time jobs there so I can afford things other than just the basic stuff. I also plan to never come back once I leave.

I was lot happier when I left home, that's for sure! I always worked part time, as well, I started out washing dishes, then busing tables, then waiting tables, which, in ways, as hard a job as it was, would probably pay more than the one I have! But college was great. I came back home for the first summer, and it was hard...after that, I just stayed down there. (My college was about 5 hours south of where we lived) Anyway, I studied a lot, and got something like a 3.75 GPA, but I also did a lot of pretty crazy things...and met some of the most interesting people I have ever met. Hope it all works out, and enjoy life in the big city : )

Maybe said person likes reading old threads?

Regardless, that's a little more than rude to send you that.

No idea, I keep hearing the term mentioned. I think it might be short for "Anti Fascism" but I'm not sure. As for it being a hoax, I'm also not sure.

I found their facebook page and they say they didn't make the posters, so it looks like it is a hoax:

Might want to tweet that at Brandon.

Tomorrow morning I'm competing in a cross country race

But alas, it is Friday night. Meaning I have to stay up late until the girls in my flat stop playing music really fucking loud and cease their screaming competitions

That aside,

I was talking to an athletics guy at dinner, who told me I'm completely fucked tomorrow for not having shoe spikes
And that I will fall over in the mud many many times, lose my shoes and possibly get trampled

Which is nice

I might tell you guys about it if I'm still alive following tomorrow's events

I bet it's from Walmart too. Those bastards!

On a completely random note about Walmart,

I went to fill my prescriptions there, I was out of syringes, and I wanted to buy some more. They wouldnt let me on the account that my prescription did not specifically account that I could buy needles.

...except my medication pretty much comes in vials so how the fuck else was I going to use it without syringes?

Ended up going to a less stupid walmart

Had someone have the same exact problem earlier today asking the same questions. I need to find another job or something, Walmart is a terrible company, and all the customers treat you like trash by default just because you work there.

Oh gosh...let it be known that as annoyed as I was I did not get pissy with said walmart's employees rules, I bit my tongue and was inwardly upset that they didnt let me do it (I've done it several times before), I thanked them anyways, got my prescriptions without the syringes, and left to another company that did give me the syringes. As annoyed as I was I did not get bitchy with the employees because Im not a dickhead who treats walmart employees harder than they already have it

Do you know those large bath tubs that are big enough for two people?

Tomorrow there won't be a soul within ten miles to bother me and I'm going to spend all day in one drinking coffee and writing dumb java apps (not including a break for showing up to work and feeding animals). I might even do some art with oil pastels. Frankly I'm not sure what that does to a person. I might turn into a salamander.

If you never hear from me again, I'm either a salamander or drowned.

God, I wish I could wear a kilt. I'm so sick of being oppressed by pants.

Why did we even invent pants? Does anyone like pants? And why do I have to wear a shirt in public? I need to to feel the wind in my chest hair and armpits.

I want to wear nothing but boots and kilts in public. The rogain is really helping my chest hair come out. Too bad it likes to grow in thicker in the middle, but whatever.

Tom Brady stop winning you fucking douchenugget! God fucking dammit.

60+ years the Faclons have never won a superbowl... this could have been their Cubs moment.

Since you're buddies with Emperor Trump why don't you go celebrate by having a fucking orgy with the orange facist and get peed on by russians. You can go win together.

We wear clothes because the first woman ever ate an apple at the behest of a talking snake. What are you, stupid? They teach you that in first grade.

Is the talking Bible snake a metaphor for a big ol' penis?

I'm so done with clothes. I'm just wearing penises from now on.
