I bought it when it was in early access (which it still is in, but I got in much earlier) because I absolutely fiended on the original. I got like 3 characters to level 100 and got all the DLC for it because I didn't want that game to end. DD2 is different in some aspects, but it's much more polished and the devs are very active. Before it went free there were a number of things people complained about that were fixed within weeks. They even added back in stat inputs after everyone complained when it was removed in favor of a sphere system (that accompanies it).I'd be willing to team up with anyone.
