WALFTEAM Posted August 9 Share Posted August 9 You probably already know this by now but: Sean "Dragoneer" Piche passed away a couple days ago after a getting blindsided by what appears to be lung cancer. The illness came at a pretty bad time for him and his finances and the financial shocks appear to have had a catastrophic effect on the outcome. The dust hasn't really cleared yet. It came as a bigger shock to me than the Lowtax suicide. Dragoneer's tenacious grip on the site was always going to be to the bitter end, but nobody would have guessed that the bitter end would have come so soon. Nobody knows who is going to wind up with FA, among other things. FA's only real asset in 2024 is a substantial but dwindling userbase, one of the last big community-run sites in a subculture that's getting unsexily vored by social media of all kinds. Socmedia emerging as the universal villain of the last 10 years makes it a bit easier to excuse Dragoneer's many, many flaws and mistakes. He was a genuine service in the face of the zuck, the musk, the dorsey, etc. And now he's gone with no known contingency plan. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
