Nova Seed movie review- a rare find of sci fi animation.

Gonzo, trippy, visionary sci-fi is a rich mine for cult movies. A new gem has come to light. Nova Seed is a great hand-drawn cartoon. You can’t tell from the high quality, but it was animated to feature length (63 minutes) by just one guy in 4 years. (Plus only a few helpers for stuff like music).  I’m writing for furry fans, and furries love art that’s not mainstream but is full of guts and talent. That’s how this movie works inside limits to exceed expectations.  If your animation gold standa

Civilized Beasts Poetry Anthology, 2015 Edition – book review by Fred Patten

Submitted by Fred Patten, Furry’s favorite historian and reviewer. Civilized Beasts, Poetry Anthology, 2015 Edition, editor-in-chief Laura Govednik. Manvil, TX, Weasel Press, December 2015, trade paperback $8.99 (86 pages), Kindle $2.99. This small, slim volume has four Editors and an Editor-In-Chief. Editor Jason Huitt (Lunostophiles) explains in his Foreword that poetry has an image problem; that it “is hard to sell to the masses.” (The other three Editors are Altivo Overo, Televassi, and G

Call for help with the Fullerton Murder story; and The Furry Code Of Silence.

Furry reached new heights in 2016. Disney came to our party.  There was a low point of a chemical attack on Midwest FurFest that turned into a high quality Vice News story.  Notice the title, “CSI Fur Fest” – I’d like to think it was chosen to make up for the other CSI, who did us a disservice. But this time “the media” earned a nomination for a 2016 Ursa Major award. It was cool that Vice did that story. The media was on our side.  That’s the theme of this post. In 2017, there was the unreal

April summary for Rune’s Furry Blog – monthly guest feature.

Rune’s Furry Blog showcases “people within the Furry Community…their characters, life, thoughts, and beliefs”. It also covers furry issues and media, with a sprinkle of personal blogging for the character Rune the Angel Dragon.  It’s the kind of furry stuff I like to support.  It came to attention by covering #FemaleFursuiterMonth. Fursuiter profiles are a cool thing I wanted more of.  She joins other syndicated guests like Andre Kon (What’s Yiffin’?) and Arrkay (Culturally F’d) to share her mon

How do you say “furry” in other languages? by Fred Patten.

Submitted by Fred Patten, Furry’s favorite historian and reviewer. Remember when Syrian refugees met furries? My January 2016 call for information about furry conventions for my Furry Fandom Conventions book, announced on Dogpatch Press, contained a comment from Anonymouse that I didn’t address at the time.  He said: “Russians needs to translate “furry” into their own language. For the last 20 or so years they have not been translating anything, and simply adopting more english words, writi

The end of Rocky Mountain Fur Con didn’t cure the problem that caused it.

Article series: 1) Original story about RMFC – 2) A false rumor – 3) Interview with the Chair. There’s a tumor in the community. It killed Rocky Mountain Fur Con. Look no further than the “Furry Raiders” and their leader “Foxler”, who calls himself “The Hitler of Furry Fandom“.  They hide behind a false front of acceptance, using regular people to help them play innocent while lying about themselves and their beliefs. There’s a lot of denial about what’s going on.  Recently, that includes a co

Artdecade paid me $5 to post about him, and you should do it too.

Somehow I found nice clean art on Artdecade’s FA gallery. Artdecade is a furry artist who has strong words about bigots, nazis, RMFC, etc. Read what he thinks about the con’s demise and recent happenings in fandom. Or just enjoy his naughty art (NSFW!) He linked to Dogpatch Press, and it’s a nice compliment to get noticed by a furry titan who has drawn 10,000 dicks. He says: Who got blamed for closing the convention? (From Reddit:) Kill the messenger before he strikes again!  Actually, ign

A false rumor about RMFC is repeating history from the Burned Furs.

Remember Rainfurrest? Bad behavior was blamed for the con’s demise. In 2015, vandalism caused a fatal economic issue between the con and its hotel. Popular attention focused on fetish activity, but the public didn’t care about it and the media was incredibly positive. That debate stayed between furries, but it was at least based on partial truth. That’s different from dishonesty you can see below. It connects the long-dead 2000-era Burned Furs and the end of ConFurence, with falsehoods that expl

A Brief History of Cartoon Animals Punching Nazis

Dogpatch Press welcomes Arrkay of furry channel Culturally F’d. Nazi-panic got you down? It seems these days everywhere you look there seems to be some sour racists ruining someone’s day. Don’t worry, we’re here to help. Working on Culturally F’d gives me a great outlet to explore anthropomorphic animals throughout history and media. So after the public twitter discussions about whether or not it’s ok to punch nazis, I recalled some historical examples that helped. Throughout the 1930s and 194

What’s Yiffin’? – April 2017 edition of syndicated furry news.

Greetings, Dogpatch Press readers. We hope you’ve been enjoying the run of What’s Yiffin’? on this website; it’s time for April’s edition! One thing you’ll realize over the course of watching our show is sometimes events happen so close to production time that we can’t include them in the show and they are delegated to next month’s release. The firestorm surrounding RMFC is an example of one such event. Literally a day or two after we wrapped up this episode that whole mess happened, sort of lik

April is Furry Poetry Month – guest post by Shining River.

Many literary magazines, libraries, authors, schools, and websites participate in this in a wide variety of ways. Since 2015, writers of the furry community have been celebrating their own version of this, which we may now call Furry Poetry Month. The writing of poetry by furries, whether they be dedicated writers or occasional writers

Rocky Mountain Fur Con backs neo-nazis, sex offender to intimidate critic for reporting threat.

A Dogpatch Press exclusive report for community interest. BACKGROUND: A neo-nazi cult-like group (the “Furry Raiders”) is agitating the Colorado Furries.  They recruit members with gifts, grooming, and manipulation.  It makes a classic appeal to people who are desperate to belong to a group. The Furry Raiders self-create an “us vs. them” situation by provoking others so they can pretend to be treated unfairly.   Their trolling includes assault, spreading hate speech, display of nazi-style appar
