RAM confusion, help please.

Right so I ditched my old sticks of ram and upgraded to 16gb of 1600 DDR3, however upon inspecting on CPU-Z, it shows they're running at max 800mhz.

Why is this? My motherboard should by all means support higher freqs.

As far as my understanding goes RAM should be about the simplest piece you can stick on a pc, just slab them in and it works as intended. This works half that and I'm confusied why it's not using their max potential..

DDR memory is Double Datarate Ram.  800mhz is actually the correct speed, everything is actually fine, you have no problems. :)  It double pumps at 800mhz so it's 'equal' to 1600Mhz to make it sound like a bigger number, it all works like that, no worries.
