Sidewalk Surfboard
I turned on my laptop a few minutes ago, and it made this really weird "REER REER REER" noise. It was loud, and my sister said her laptop did it all the time, so she instructed me to hit it. I did, and it stopped doing the noise and started to work properly. Is my fan going bad, or do I just have to clean it?
Feelwell
It's not a fan of you. Or, y'know, it might just kinda come loose. Cleaning it couldn't hurt, and afterwards if it still does it it may just be going bad. But uh, hitting it probably isn't a good idea. Gamedog
Was it turning at all when it made this noise?

Snagged
Same happened to my laptop when one the blades of the fan became loose and dropped off in the fan chamber. I Had to remove the blade and clean up the dust and after that things worked normal and the fan was relatively quiet again. I suggest you open up your PC back panel and check if there's any junk in the fan chamber (provided your laptop warranty is void, else you could take it to repair shop and pay about 20$ for a very small and simple job to have your fan cleaned)
