The thread for all your trading card needs!

Into magic? Pokemon? It doesn't matter!

This thread is for talking about certain games, arranging tournaments and duels with each other online(or whatever you call it) and discussing what deck you use and getting advice from other players.

Personally i play Yu Gi Oh and i play a synchron deck (I'm just getting back into it). I have a dueling network account with the same username as my username here so if anyone wants to battle me I'm willing to have a go!

Back in the day I used to play Yu-Gi-Oh and I wanted to play Pokemon, but for some reason no one played it, just collected the cards. The guys in the Magic group were weird, so I picked up Yu-Gi-Oh instead. We didn't get much time to play, but there were a couple school days each year in high school that were basically "free-for-all" days where you just showed up to homeroom and then were allowed to roam free, so we chose not to roam and sat there playing Yu-Gi-Oh. I was pretty decent at it, just one kid who was better than me. He always seemed to draw the cards he needed, but also had some of the rarer cards that could screw me over, whereas the rest of us only got to buy packs/decks/tins on rare occasions.

I had the Pokemon one, the Digimon one, and the Sailor Moon one.

Pokemon was the only one I actually played, though.

I still have a bunch of holographic and "special promo" cards (movie sets and various things), somewhere at my parents' house though.

Heh....i actually find that really funny that none of us actually know how to play pokemon properly.

When i was 7 the rules were

1) draw a pokemon (no add ons in the deck)

2) have only 1 pokemon at a time in a 1vs 1 style

3) whoever basically ran out of cards first lost.

I always been curious as how magic plays. As far to my knowledge, yugioh is the major TCG in Britain. I don't even know if we even get magic cards properly.

I did learn how to play Pokemon because sometimes I liked to force my brothers to play it with me, but it wasn't the same because they mostly had to use my cards and I had to tell them what to do, so I don't much count that. I still have my old deck somewhere and for a while I really wanted to get into it competitively, but no one to practice against and the nearest group being a long way away while not having any spare money... Was a very unrealistic dream.

Magic is the chess of card games far as I'm concerned. Its very cerebral when you get into things like turn phases and move priority.

But at its most basic~ it goes like this. You both start with 20 life. You play "land cards" to generate energy. You use those to play creatures and spell cards to attack your opponent and defend yourself. First one to reach 0 life loses.

There are other win conditions than just reducing life to 0, but that one is the most common and most used by new players.

The only TCG I really play is hearthstone and I haven't touched it in a bit. I'd love to get into magic if it wasn't so goddamn expensive and money grabbing.

I also have a bunch of cards for that hilariously goofy furry porn card game called furoticon. I bought a deck at AC for shits and giggles and then decided to enter a beginner's tournament they had, and I actually won. They gave me a shit ton of cards and a button saying I was the champion. I keep it on my con lanyard :V

Yea... magic's main problem is that its expensive to get into. Thankfully the cards do seem to retain/grow in value over time -mostly- so I don't feel like it was a -total- black hole for my money.

When I still had people to play against, toward the end, I'd just buy individual cards for decks online rather than do the crap shoot that is booster packs. Saved more money that way.

I never really got into magic. i played a bit of it since at my college magic was basically half the game club, but i never really liked the pace of it. Having lands in the deck and having to draw them never really appealed to me. I also don't like the color distinctions and not too much freedom to mix things, you can make hybrid decks with duel or three colors but even then its still a little bit meh of a thing for me. There's also the money aspect of it but there are online versions to play.

I prefer Hearthstones stable mana increase, and also the fact is free to play so long as you keep playing it/are good at arena. Also even though there are classes and class cards it doesn't feel as restricting as Magic. I play hearthstone quite a lot and prolly more than i should. the addition of Tavern Brawl really bought a whole bunch of more life into the game for me.

Though Swordgirls was my favorite online card game. You always have the same restrictions to work with in terms of summoning, you have 5 slots to put cards on and 10 size worth to work with. One of the things I liked most about it was no restriction of factions for card use. There are 5 different factions Crux, Vita, Academy, Darklore, And neutral Regardless of the faction of your character you can use cards from any faction you want which is very nice and makes deck building pretty fun.  The second thing is how every card has flavor text, along with the fact even most of the minor characters are seen on multiple cards, this gives a lot of lore and personality to the game which is really nice. It's a shame that the NA server closed down, though there is a fan server up now which is nice, though obviously no where near as populated as the main game was.

Download Cockatrice from Woogerworks. You now have every Magic Card you need to build whatever deck you want and can play online with thousands of people.

Yeah but the thing that would get me into magic is the fact that I can have a physical deck to play with and actually be there with friends. I've got hearthstone for digital TCGs
