Registration problem (security question)

One of my friends is trying to register, but the security question, designed to deter bots, is cryptic and will not accept his answers.

The question variants include 'what are furries' 'what are foxes' and 'what is this'.

Here is an example:

Seriously...that's not even a question. How are new members meant to answer these questions?

and that answer was correct...and he is still being rejected. :\

Can any staff make a suggestion to help him?

as hilarious as "dragons are assholes" is, it's really not that clear (and come on, I tried "self-centered" and "narcissistic" before that!)

I bet 'naughty' would have worked as an answer to all the questions.

Looks like your friend needs an adult.

Maybe he is a babyfur? :V

Also the security questions were enabled because robots were registering to proliferate spam...but evidently the questions are so fussy that real people are dismissed repeatedly.

Someone has some explaining to do. Did an admin just get bored or what?

I mean, I do agree that anti-bot questions are nice, but they need to be things like "does kabier draw gay yiff" or something that has a clear answer, lol

Lots of people will not know this, and 50% of bots would succeed by answering yes or no randomly.

The question should be something like 'what is your favourite animal?'

Suggestions: Favorite animal, foxes are (slutty, whores, something fairly obvious.), furries draw a lot of ____ (art, or porn if you want.). Something that should be obvious but still require an answer more complex than Y/N. Should also be something people can tell without being part of the fandom, otherwise a lot of people will just become exasperated with it and go somewhere else.

Yeah, I don't think it should be "foxes are sluts" or anything like that, since I assume we don't want to keep new furries from joining.

Thankyou clove.

This reminds me of an online education service, called 'Moodle', that I used to be required to use.

Every time I submitted an answer to a question, it would mark it wrong because it didn't like the format I chose to submit in. For example if I submitted '2' it would say 'the answer was 2.0'.

This is where a picture challenge/response would be better, IMHO.

I put this to Arcana and he said that bots can recognise images too. (Although I suppose it gets rid of less sophisticated bots).

Mostly the questions need to have clear answers, which can be submitted without ambiguity. It would be preferable if common typos were accepted, because robots are even less likely to make a typo. x3

Still images, yes. Moving images far less so. My old anime forum used clips from various anime as a challenge/response. Pretty much bullet-proof.

I would definitely not be able to answer any of those, lol.

I think we should select entry questions which don't preclude newbies from entering. Maybe a gif with 3 cats in it, with the question 'how many cats did you see?'.

I had this problem when trying to sign up... luckily after many failed attempts it finally became a question I actually figured I knew the answer to.

My college uses Moodle. My IT assignments have to be submitted entirely through Moodle and turnitin. Luckily my teachers never make Moodle quizzes like that because they know how crap and awful they are.

Let's catalogue the answers which work, for prospective members to read:

Dragons are: assholes.

Pretty sure that "foxes are sluts" also works, but I fucked up the captcha on that one so I had to try again lol

Works too. This is the one I got when I managed to sign up, and just tried it again a minute ago.

You can't see the catchpa... captcha... whatever you call it on Chrome. And I thought I just couldn't answer the question correctly lol

Nonetheless, the questions are pretty stupid as well. Please change them for other people's sake.

Congratulations on your first post! ;) And the captcha works fine for me on Chrome.

I've disabled them for the moment, and we'll try to rotate it more often with answers that are easy while making it difficult for bots to register.

Cheers.

In spite of the difficulty with the site security, I have succeeded in contaminating this forum with furry scum far worse than any bot could ever be. C:

We'll fix that sooner or later. :V

Anyways, the reason why the questions were implemented was because we were seeing a high infux of spambots and spambot IPs. Until we can work out on some reasonable answers for the questionare, just keep an eye out on those Chinese spambots selling fake IDs and crappy purses.
