One BILLION dollars

I really hope I would do something meaningful with it. I'm not greedy, I only really want to win about $25k so that I can pay off my current debts. I had a thought last night about if I won I would like to be able to help people out like that, folks like the current me who are buried under debt and just want to recover from it, not spoil themselves. I think it would get taken advantage of quite a bit, not really sure how you could prevent that. Maybe if I stayed anon and just found people randomly who needed help, not allowing people to apply for it. Would be lots of work, though.

I've always had a little side dream about helping kitties in multiple fashions. Big cats, small cats, and anything in between. I would love to really dive into the world of studying my favorite big kitties and help fund conservation projects to keep them safe. Small kitties need help too, so I would like to be able to run a shelter/home for them and help rehab them and get them into good homes (but if they had to stay with me their whole lives, that'd be fine too because I'd have all sorts of awesome things for them there). As elaborate as my plans are though, I don't think I would be able to pull off as much as I want and support it for a long time. I would need a lot of people donating as well to keep it going for a long time.

I know exactly what I'd do:

Put it all in a savings account. Even if it's only 0.05% interest, It'll still accumulate 500,000,000 dollars a year, which is more than enough to live off of (Unless my rudimentary knowledge of savings accounts is incorrect)

Then enjoy my life of not working and focus on things like drawing/ playing music

Hold on..

500 million, that number there, is half of a billion.

0.05% interest, being half of 1%, is 1/200.

1/200 of a billion dollars, however, is still a cool $5,000,000, or, five million.

EDIT: Ah shit. Didn't see there was a second page. Whoops.

Its fun to dream isn't it? If I won that much money, i'd get a lawyer to help my spouse's immigration go faster, maybe start a business, buy a nice home, and use the rest for travel holidays and savings.

But the more people buy tickets, the less likely you are to have a chance. And if you only buy one, you're basically throwing your money in the bin.

Technically, you have the same (near zero) chance at winning, no matter how many people play. However, the more people playing means the greater the probability you would have to split the jackpot with other people (and potentially more people) should you beat the odds and win. Moreover, You cannot afford to buy enough tickets to improve your odds by any significant amount. Buying just one ticket is flushing your money down the toilet virtually as much as buying 100 tickets. That's how small the odds are.

This article has some fun ways to visualize one's odds, for those who are interested.

With that money I will buy/finance all the furry forum and event, so all of you will have to bow in front of me as the supreme fox who finance this and other furry event/forum *maniacal laugh*

Also those who want a fursuit and can't afford one I will pay a fursuit maker to make one, so you will belong to me also ! *Evil giggles*

Some companies in Silicon Valley have actually started denying applicants with degrees, literally saying "Why did you waste 4 years on his shit instead of actually working and learning to code?" When I hire people at my company, I don't even look at the degree, really. Just their experience, prior code examples, and then give them between a month and three months of trial for a reduced pay to allow them to prove themselves.

No, thank you for this. You just confirmed my suspicions. The future world will be vocation oriented that bases itself on practical experience, not some theoretical degrees

And while we are on topic, I think that any excess money that does go into necessities/small luxuries should be invested or donated for those who need that financial kickstarter for their innovations. The point of economy is to get money to circulate, not make it stagnant so if I were a lottery winner, I'd put that money into circulation after all the basic needs and savings are taken care of (see my previous reply)

If you won that much money, why would you need to bother with immigration? You two would be able to basically live wherever the hell you wanted, just paying for accommodations in cash. That's my dream goal, once I earn enough to convince my husband to retire too.

(People with socialist entitlement mentality are so greedy!)

Gotta bring up that socialism bent huh?

How about... people are selfish and self-centered and entitled and think they deserve special treatment. Has nothing to do with a political ideology.

Also, I do wish that university discussion would continue, perhaps in a new thread.

Greedy people who want free things from rich people, because they're envious of what those rich people have, is pretty much a political ideology now, at least if we were to listen to Bernie supporters xD
