TrishaCat
Sometimes the simplest things can brighten up my day. Maybe its a tad silly to make a thread for, but one of the things I love is when one becomes such a regular customer that restaurant workers know who you are and what you want from the get-go. Anyways, to explain, after starting school a couple years ago I grew a taste for coffee. There's this wonderful little coffee shop on campus called Einstein Bros that sells breakfast goods and coffee drinks. Every time I used to walk in, I'd ask for a Hazelnut mocha. It got to the point where I'd walk in and they'd smile at the sight of me walking in and immediately start making a hazelnut mocha before I even ask for one. Sometimes they'll joke with me and say "ham and cheese this time?" while at the register, and in my awkward confusion they'll smile and say "just kidding", and then ring me up without me ever saying a word as to what I wanted. This happened much of last school year and they even remembered my face when the summer ended and I came back to school like usual. Even after several months, they remembered me. Eventually they started serving a pumpkin latte so I switched to that and within a week that's what they started making me whenever I walk in. I adore going to this place because everyone is friendly and they know my face and know what I want. Its so pleasant to know that these workers know who you are and what you want, and I love that! My dad used to tell me stories of when he was in the army and stationed in Germany where everytime he'd walk into some place he'd ask for a grilled cheese, and eventually they'd just immediately start making him one before he even asked. I love stuff like that! Its really cool when workers do this! It makes it much more pleasant to go out in public to these stores and just makes me want to continue being a faithful customer.
Recel
It's even better when you buy something at the same time every day. For instance I buy my cigarettes exactly the same time every two days, and the local cashier picked up on that, so every time I walked in, the tobacco was already placed on the counter. We simply greeted each other, I gave her the money than I went on my marry way. While there was no smile or jokes, like in your case, it sure made things a lot faster. Sadly, workers rapidly change in my area nowadays, so I don't get to experience this any more.

Yeah, I imagine store clerks and such are often people taking summer jobs or are just temporary for someone until they find something better. But wow, while that lasted that must've been super convenient. Makes going to the store so fast and easy.
Vitaly
Have a small bakery shop on the way from work. Every week I buy quiche and tea there, know all staff and they know me, so package with my yumies is ready as soon as I open their door. They allowed me to pay next time if their terminal doesn't work and keep pie for me if its almost sold out. And I helped guy from bakery when learned that he study at the same faculty where I studied so I sent him my notes and works (handsome guy, by the way). Probably it's my favorite place outside my home, love such cozy quiet coves.
Ieono
I have a comic book store and a hobby shop that I visit each week, too. I've been going to them for about a year, and I always stay a bit to talk about comic news/new models. It's a great feeling to shop at a place that makes you feel welcome like that. I've even got some free back issues, and regular discounts on my paints/kits. That's why I prefer shopping at small local stores, because the employees are usually a bit more invested in their workplace. I can expect to see the same people each week, haha.
DrGravitas
I lobe that too! Makes for a very quick and efficient lunch in the office cafeteria :D
Snagged
I don't really take my patronage to one single place because there are so many other places nearby and I just kinda go to whatever is closest to me. Rivalry is good and I like supporting many, especially small independent businesses 15 minutes ago, 6tails said: I wonder how many of my regular customers at the porno shop would rave about being regular customers there? Probably not that many! Hasn't pornography mostly shifted to internet aside from sex toys and prostitution?
PastryOfApathy
I get that fairly often around work and my house. Namely the local roast beef and pizza place (both literally a 3 minute walk from my room), and the McDonald's near work since I eat there way too much. I have fairly unique tastes so it's always kinda funny when they just flat-out say, "oh we saw you from across the street so your extra-large cheese pizza with no sauce will be done in like 3 minutes." It's pretty neat.
Strongbob
I'm a regular at the neighborhood brewery. It feels good when the staff greats you by name offers up the latest libations. That reminds me, it's Friday and I'm feeling a bit parched. I may have to wrap things up early

Wrecker
I was at the same store stocking up on gas and smokes every day for a while, and the lady there kept my brand underneath her till until I got there. I asked for "a pack of-" and boom, it was on the counter
Sety
That's happened to me at the pizza place I like to go to every other week or so. Whenever I stop there during my friday errands, the waitress just always knows exactly what I'm going to order. Feels kind of nice considering I always think of myself as easily forgettable. Punnchy
I tend to eat at a pizza buffet every couple of weeks as well, and when I go in, I'm usually handed a place marker or asked if I want my usual, because I always order the same type of pizza and grab a few slices off the bar to hold me over till it's made. Endless/Nameless
I eventually get from awkwardness to comfortable awkwardness. Does that count?
