Australia is full of tiny, obscure, nearly-extinct creatures that nobody who isn't explicitly looking for them will ever notice.

That is true, people miss out on rare obscure gems all the time.

...and not quite as rare and obscure (knowledgewise, I mean) but, Plz scientists, bring back thylacine 2k15

Some idiot would shoot it.

Actually, not all of them are entirely unnoticeable. We found one of these in our back yard once when I was a child. It is a small rat-looking animal which has a short lifespan largely because each breeding season the males fuck to exhaustion and die. Then the females raise their offspring... and die.

It's probably a good thing they're too stupid to think much about this.
