Hey gaiz! New furry game green-lit on steam!

I'll probably wind up buying this during the Christmas sale. I dislike the generic artwork and think it'll probably be bad, and the dev seems...Well, I'm not going to say a bad person or even overly protective necessarily but...I don't like the way he handles himself on Steam. But. I do want to support blatant furry games being added to Steam, as I'd love to see some actually quality works get added and want it to seem like a friendly platform to add games on.

Plus I'm curious and the story seems ripped straight outta Persona 3.

i'm just unsure if the principle of supporting a genre will be enough. this seems like the furry equivalent of those toy/popculture inspired games you'd see on old consoles. just a thin option of gameplay with an icon who paid enough slapped on top.

i think if anything the unfortunate reality is that this might steer people away from "truly" anthro games altogether.

Please, don't. Those of us with plans to make things will make them regardless of if you support shit like this. If anything, NOT supporting this, supports the notion of requiring higher quality work from people in the future.

Let's support a game because it's furry, even if it's utter trash?

Good way to support good quality on furry works!

Furries shouldn't be afraid to speak out against things like this, especially if the developer is trying to create a "Safe space" so he can profit off the ignorant furry masses. It isn't kosher and it says a lot of what the developer thinks of the customer base; that they are ignorant and will by anything that contains furry characters.

Wow recognized that this game is using RPG Maker MV considering that is a newer maker that still has some issues since i've played the 20 day trial testing it out.

To be honest the creator should have made this in a visual novel since it works a lot better. And i tend to prefer quality rpg maker games with story, combat, and themes.

You say that jokingly but that's precisely how people supported the idea of more Japanese games on Steam. There are all sorts of threads on Steam and elsewhere of people pushing people into buying terrible games in the hope of getting publishers to throw them a bone and publish more of such games on Steam.

I'm not really worried about more not getting made, just not getting published on Steam. As in, people thinking its not a friendly platform for this sort of stuff. Although I suppose it doesn't really matter if I buy it or not in that regard, but like I said I did have some interest, so a Christmas sale would be best.

If it turns out bad, I'll just review it like most people do and say how shitty it is.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, honestly. Furries have proven they'll vote for anything that doesn't like like trash (or even stuff that does), so at the moment, it's a non-issue x3

If you still want to, I can't stop you.

On a side note: https://archive.is/7D2MY

Rather than dealing with the issue of royalties, he would rather just drop a patreon backer's character, and a character featured in cards, backgrounds and promotional material.

This is not going to end well for him. There's a lot of things you have to do to make a game. I wonder did he make the resources himself?

If I recall correctly, the artist (for the characters, at least) is stated to be PawziClawzi

One of the backgrounds can be found on google images, so I wouldn't hesitate to guess more than a few others are taken from image searches too.

I hope he paid that artist. And oh boy backgrounds from google images no indie artist would do something like that considering it's safe to say that most have copyrights.

Considering this is one of the reasons when you buy software licence for game makers you have the right to use the resources in that maker. If you buy others in a similiar or different maker that's just a bonus as well.

I'll place a bet on him not even having paid for the RPG Maker license to make this.

Sadly i would not be surprised at all (Though you have just reminded me of a discussion that was at the rpgmakerforums about this.)

Ironically i actually paid for all rpg maker licences /XP/VV/VxAce/ at the official site and the steam versions of RPG maker 2000/2003 the only one left on my wishlist on steam is MV and that one uses javascript.

(Also the fact that if i wanted to use older resources in newer makers and viceversa buying the licence for that maker is for legal reasons if i wanted to sell my game.)

Okay, so let's see. He's already utilized the Sergal in promotional materials. If he backs out of paying royalties and removes the character from the game, those who bought the game for the Sergal character will have been hit by a bait-and-switch.

As it stands, if he backs out anyways, it's false and misleading advertisement.

Dumbass.

You really should take notes on this since this could be a good lesson on what not to do as a game developer or even an hobbyist.

It's also backing out of a patreon pledge that he promised to someone. Even if they change the character, they were led to believe a certain character was alright and then forced to change it later down the road. Not good.

Considering how absolutely basic these things are, I don't think any of us need to really take notes x3

But still this game developer is not taking critique well at all and those reviews really do turn me off. Considering it's bad enough that steam greenlight has requirements and yet how did this game get through. (I'm playing the demo at the moment) Before people think this was'nt made in rpg maker how do you explain this....

If I were a coder, I would. :c

That's fine. This project has no barriers to entry, quite honestly. Think you can do pixel art within a maximum size constraint of 32 pixels wide x 64 pixels tall?

Honestly, I have never tried doing pixel art before, but I am sure it isn't as difficult than trying to paint something in Photoshop; I'd have to see what I could do.

This would be a hilariously bad idea. The shitposting per capita here would taint such a project long before it is finished xP

Here's another thing: Klace tried to doxx "Basic Furries" on Facebook for sharing proof of his behaviour.  http://i.imgur.com/i1AGb4j.jpg

I actually suggested such a thing back in the FAF days, just for laughs.

If anybody wants to work on an unholy project like that with me, by all means, I would love to make it happen =v

(but only if I can self-insert)

Use the BYOND engine. It's easy to work with, has tons of community support and plugins, fairly decent programming documentation, it's free, games on Steam have been made with it (NEStalgia) and quite low requirements, plus it comes with everything a person would need to make their own stuff. Currently, the 2DSL project I'm working on only needs a single-core high-end Pentium 3/lower-end P4 to run smoothly. That will likely change a tiny bit as features add, but overall, the way the engine is, I should never need to go beyond that level of hardware for the client side of things.

I really don't think so since there BYOND engine while powerful is really designed for online games. Basically those programs i've mentioned are desgined for visual novels and both are popular.

Basically 6tails since this is a visual novel were talking about it's best to use a maker that is designed for it like those two examples. BYOND is more like for advanced users.

Recognition in being one of the coders to make something that kicks Furcadia's lazy and likely corrupt ass?

I actually know someone who makes art for Furcadia I think. I'm not super into furry stuff so I dunno do you have any other incentive besides that?

-Part 2-

After you meet with Prick and Butters, the second contest winner, he then berates and mocks you before making a comment about making snap judgement about people when you first meet them. You also learn that your pop idol senpai will not be joining you for a couple of days because of he and his tour manager having a spat. (*snnnrrrkk*) After some conversation, you are escorted to your Limo where you meet big booby lady #1 named Jade. Butters asks about Pop idol senpai and she makes an irreverent joke before you head out from the train terminal.

Once in the limp, Prick introduces you to the next character, Senpai's brother who I will call "Pip". Of course we all know he isn't pop Idol senpai's bro. Prick also explains certain terms to make sure that  the people know that you and Butters are "Ignorant American N'wahs with money" by teaching you a couple of Japanese terms to say. After that, you think he's an alright guy for making sure all of Nippon recognizes your filthy outlander status!

After that little bit of conversation, Prick begins to go into the whole "Midnight Death" plot device and how the Japanese people are a superstitious lot and think Klace is satan or something because he came to Japan around the same time these "mysterious deaths" began happening. Klace has been restricted from going out lest the masses lynch him for bringing about this curse of death and doom upon glorious Japan and you cannot tell anyone why you are here. Butters begins to freak out  and piss his pants about the whole death business. Bird boob lady lets you out while you make a bad remark about banging. (:V).

You and your group are let out onto the bright streets of Akihabara, or Weaboo-mecca. You head to the nearest cosplay cafe that happens to be owned and funded by Klace. Prick makes some rude comments and complains, but you make it there safely.

Once inside, you meet boob lady #2 named Eclair, a cat lady.  She talks about why they do not have tables with four chairs in Japan and other usesless trivia before she takes you and Butters to your  table. She gives you rice balls, ask you more things before asking about prick. At that reveal, she goes from 11 to 1 in an instant thinking about her ex...or something. Depending on your choices, you can either go after her or leave her sobbing. If you choose the former option, you get a bit of backstory about her and Prick.

Once you head back outside, Butters has been talking to prick about you wanting to stick your Yoohoo in Eclair's "Chaachaa" and tries to backpeddle it as a joke. They left you by yourself for a few hours while you were trying to comfort the cat without telling you at all before returning and taking you to your hotel.

You arrive at your swanky diggs and turn on the tube, learning that there was another "death". The reporter seems very distraught about the person that died, as are you and Butters.

After that bit, you get some notes on your choices that tell you that you did not make any optimal ones at all. Kind of disappointing.

Furcadia is pretty much dead. I logged into it a couple of months ago and there weren't nearly as many people as there were over a decade ago. It was depressing.

To quote one of the most prolific and creative BYOND coders:

"Yes, BYOND gives you built-in networking, but that doesn't mean you have to use it."

And there are tons of single-player BYOND games.

Is your game not going to be multipler?

So just be some insect. I'm not going to stifle anyone's creativity until it gets past the line and goes in areas it shouldn't go. PG areas mean PG sprites. If you want to have a hairy dick as a sprite, its use is restricted to R+ areas.

Can I not be a spooky ghost? Does the dev team not get special privileges?

Shush, Toshi-kun.

Anyways, I found some free software to make VNs:
http://www.visualnovelty.com/about.html

O-oh! OH! OH! I SEE HOW IT IS! Ozzychan, imma make my own furry dating simulator with a mass effect apocalyptic threat and imma make EVERY character you, except make you completely tsundere. Oh oh oh, and the best part is the main character is a dude and is completely mega gay. That's right, you play as a gay guy and the only characters to date are girls.

And here's the real kicker: Everyone STILL fucking dies in the end becuase you were too busy trying to figure out how to get into a relationship with two completely incompatible people instead of stopping the reapers. GOD, REMOVE REAPERS!

Well if you think about it  but he does have valid point. You can't master digital art or 3D programming without traditional stuff. Plus there's a lot more to it if you think about it.
Plus the fact most likely he most likely be experienced enough to not need a framework.

And besides there are other ways to learn.

Going to leave this here while i'm at it.

Haven't seen the article, but yeah. The General Discussion board was locked to game owners very early in order to block a lot of discussion. Apparently if you don't own it, you don't have a right to talk about it :V
