(Now ex) FA developer screwed over by FA (video)

naive as it is, I can believe that he really didn't know much about the drama that was going on at FA/F. a lot of people on the actual site have no clue what's going on either. now it was kind of silly to not get paid up front or even demand more than just the bare minimum but desperation does things to people. I guess it does expose some pretty devious (though already pretty apparent) things about the management of the site.

The population will only shift when there is another place for them to go and only when they see more people heading to said place. Otherwise it'll be a lot of "this sucks!" coupled with continued use of the system.

while that's true, it hasn't been very successful in the past. not when Chase was reintroduced as an admin and not even when Zaush was hired to help with the "new UI". people left for Weasyl but inevitably many still came back to FA because that's where the majority of their audience is.

I hope that guy gets some sense into his head and sues FA/IMVU. You CANNOT rely on the donations of complete strangers. You CANNOT live on savings unless you're a multi millionare. The guy even states in the video that he qualifies for food stamps... what great life, what honor, what deep joy can be found in fucking scraping the bottom of the barrel just to survive? What badge of glory is there in facing HOMELESSNESS? The high road is bringing these thieves to court. The low road is doing NOTHING. You post a video going on about what happened, and that's it? That's the goddamn low road.

DO NOT RELY ON THE GENEROSITY OF STRANGERS. Rinse and repeat that 94867589 times.

This guy would WIN a lawsuit with FA/IMVU easily if he can prove he worked there (contract of sorts).

I HOPE this guy gets some sense into his head. If not, he's just another victim of FA's BS backroom (in)actions, and he's just throwing himself at the Dept of Human Services, which might I add, can be a rather lengthy process.

As of now, FA is where the largest population of furries is, so until that changes, I'm not going to migrate elsewhere.

And this is why FA never dies, regardless of how poorly it is made, how shitty the staff are, and how badly it is run. All that shit takes second place to getting your daily sugar cubes.

I've got a question, right. Geared towards both artists and watchers.

Sites like DeviantArt are larger and have more potential customers if you're an artist.

Sites like Weasyl are more fun, look better and feel better.

So what place does FA even have?

People on DA are not willing to pay furries the prices for commissions that FA commissioners pay. Due to the Points system, art is extremely undervalued. It's also harder to get noticed, as a furry artist, due to all the teenagers and anime artists. I can charge $50 for a commission on FA where I'd only earn roughly $20 on DA. Also, no one on DA will commission me because I'm fairly unnoticed and don't have a style that appeals to the general population on that site.

Moving to Weasyl would be a pain for me not only because I'd have to re-establish myself as an artist, but because I know very few of my followers would follow me. My favorite artists might not be there, and I'd like to be able to view new artwork from my watches at least every couple of hours. I don't know though, I might try it.

DA is overpopulated. When everyone turns their attention towards the latest meme, ponies and DD (That seem to be exclusively handed to a clique), have fun getting 5 views on a picture that would've gotten you 500 views on FA.

Weasyl was okay, but god damn, its stale, underpopulated and is trying to be something its not: A general art site. Its biggest flaw, imho, was relying on this dilusion that they werent a pure furry website.

FA has the right amount of population to work. As long as the cum stained servers keep running, it'll always be #1.

FurryNetwork looks promising though. Twitter is also a surprisingly great place for furry artists to get work and attention (retweets are powerful).

As an "artist" I'll answer both.

>Why not DA?

It's hideously overcrowded and gaining any kind of foothold is nigh impossible unless you have some kind of preexisting userbase. You can spend like 100 hours working on this amazing, professional-level masterpiece only for it to be immediately washed away by mspaint pony recolors and memes literally within the span of 5 seconds.

Also somehow its community is worse.

>Weasyl?

It's a ghost town. That's all there is to say.

>What place does FA have?

It's where everyone is and unlike DA it's just obscure enough where there's just enough people to give you the chance to get noticed. The site is shit (but it has been getting better), and Fagoneer can go fuck a garbage disposal, but like it or not it's by far the best place for me as a producer of content to focus my efforts on.

I hate FA, but I've made friends there, I have fans there(which still sounds weird as hell to me) so like it or not that's where I gotta stay.

Compared to DA, you can make more money off folks on FA than the former. With the points system, you can easily get ripped off for your work in comparison to FA where you can charge your worth without the DA-middleman. Despite the controversy, it's also has a bigger number of furries compared to the other internet art venues.

That and DA has an awful community.

So apparently the situation has been resolved on IMVU's end. He's getting paid. Neer is still playing ESO.

I really hope IMVU slaps the shit out of them for this. Most of the other FA drama is just community bullshit but refusing to pay your employee who was under contract is un-fucking-acceptable and can have actual legal repercussions.

If I were IMVU I'd fire Neer. Who would replace him? Idk, maybe Chase. Still sucks.

Literally the only reason I stay on FA at all is because that's where all of my favorite artists are. That's probably why anybody stays, the users. If there were some practical way to get nearly everybody to switch sites at once, FA would sink like a stone.

Not chase, no. He's good at being a middle-man (barely), but not the boss.

All it would take is for FA to go down for a couple of months, and the traffic for Weasyl would spike.

FA's a necessary evil until another option pops up.

Also, did you know that Bad Dragon wanted to buy FA?

If everybody went to Weasyl that would be amazing. I think that's just wishful thinking though. After seeing how many times FA has burned people, fucked off on their most basic responsibilities, instigated drama, etc etc etc. I wonder if people will ever get a clue. It's like stockholm syndrome or something.

It's because all the popumurrs are there. If FA became an ISIS communications network, furries would still go there for senpai's dog dong.

I'd like to think IMVU would do enough research to know how disastrous making fucking Chase of all people the "boss" of FA. Like they could get away with making him the head mod of ye olde FAF (at least in name), since only a relatively tiny amount of people cared about FAF.

Making him the boss of FA proper though? Ho-lee shit, the shitstorm would be fucking glorious.

The only reason Chase was made head of FAF was because Dragoneer wanted a bit more control on criticism threads and drama. Sciggles wanted to do away with it permanently because the members were a bag of dicks and the mods weren't doing anything to stop the negative reactions to FA's drama or stopping the members from calling chase a "Dog fucker", "puppy mongler", etc.

Pffftt...The imperials think we needed their laws.

Any problems weren't taken seriously if we asked Chase to address certain things with the admins, or neer himself; like site issues. That wasn't our department to tell what's going on inside FA's inner circle, so things were "Allowed" to fester because we had no fucking clue what was going on. Chase would give you the runaround repeat "We are looking into it" with no actual response or answer of a solution or resolution.

I do have to give it to Arshes. At least she listened.

as shitty as it is at times, FA's community is a lot better than DA's or Weasyl. unless you're a professional or popular artist, it's really hard to start a following on dA from scratch. artwork is usually gone from the front page within minutes of posting it so it's hard to grab anyone's attention unless your art is really good. the only other ways to get popular on that site are to have friends already on the site or be active in groups or the forums.

Weasyl was a great concept and I really like it, but it still feels like there's something missing from the site.

I also tried SoFurry for a little bit but I really don't like the layout of that site at all. on top of being a cesspool of dirty

Definitely agree on all points with the DA bit.

As far as Weasyl goes, yes, you do kind of have to re-establish yourself (that can be a good thing depending on the person, but if you're relatively unknown it doesn't make much of a difference), but that applies for all sites.  As far as bigger artists or your favorite artists, you really just have to check and see. There's a good handful of well known FA artists on there, such as CadmiumTea, +3 Defense, Applemonster, and others as well.

And you can view new artwork from your watches... I'm unsure what makes you think that's not possible.

I have heard some people say FN allows cub, but I'm not going to go searching for it.

I remember them posting an AUP but I can't find it for the life of me. Weird, I also don't recall it being allowed but I could be wrong.

Besides, you can set global blacklisted tags on FN so you'd never see the stuff you don't like to see.

Sorry if I wasn't clear about that last part. What I meant was that I like having a bunch of new uploads from artists I follow every couple hours. I get about 200 submission notices a day on FA, I imagine it would be pretty hard to work up my watch list to view that many on a new site without putting in some serious work.

I think it depends on how many people you watch. I watch a decent amount of people, and I go in and check on new things once it hits 100, which doesn't take too long. It depends on the individuals and their output. I seem to get more on the weekends. Right now there's 26 in my notifications :3 though I also just did a sweep thru them, hence the low number.

I can confirm they allow cub porn. I tweeted them about it a while ago.  See the convo
