What could've made Sonic better?

I can't take story in Sonic games seriously at all.

"Robotnik's evil. Stop him, Sonic." I just want it to be left at that. lol

I rather like how fucking ridiculous it gets, so long as it's not super serious. Like Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 make me laugh the whole way through :v

Adventure 1 all I could stomach. 2 was a great game, but god...that plot. No. So cringeworthy to me.

Unleashed another that was goofy, but ok.

I just want to go fast

Alright, I have actual issue with the idea that Sonic is supposed to always go fast.

Sonic never ever consistently went fast. In every game the later levels made you stop. In every game, you were punished for going fast.

Play any of the games. The early games.

I suck at the original Sonic though

Speed is literally what was advertised from his inception. It was the reward for being good and learning the game. You aren't "punished" in the sense that you aren't supposed to go fast. You're punished for being bad at managing his speed during all the platforming.

You get it. If speed was how a beginner was meant to play the games, stages wouldn't have a 10 minute time limit.

That's fair, I guess.

However, if that's the case, I don't think the 3D sonics should be judged for having that sam feature. They should just be judged for the game breaking bugs and every bit that isn't sonic :v

As linear as people claimed Unleashed's daytime stages were, I found the technical depth in the movement system exhilarating and fun to speed run just as much as Adventure 1. Example of what you can do with M-Speed/D-Speed.

Yeah, basically. I'm all for wanting more platforming elements, but it's a speed focused platformer. Both elements are of equal importance and need to work in tandem.

Make a real Sonic and Mario crossover not that Olympics crap. Like Crash and Spyro did on the GBA. Mario vs Eggman(Robotnik) and Sonic vs Bowser.

The Crash and Spyro crossovers worked because they have very similar gameplay. While you can easily say Mario and Sonic basically amount to hold right and jump, how they execute this is very different. As Patches pointed out, in Sonic speed is the reward for mastery. For me at least, Mario games are more about precision platforming than pure speed.

I think that would make things interesting. The villains would be so used to their regular counterparts they would have to adjust. Sonic would speed through Goombas and use homing attacks in Koopas. While Mario would bash robots with his hammer and jumps. To me it could make some interesting gameplay.

To make it work the dev team would have to show some crazy creativity. Although the more I think about it, Sonic and Mario might be able to work if it was similar to a Mario Galaxy game.

I still would like a crossover. Maybe they'd have to do a different forumla, but seriously...Olympic sporting? You got us hype combining the two biggest juggernauts of platforming..........for another goddamn Mario Sports Mix? :l

Hopefully that won't happen again. The last thing we need is 'Mario & Sonic Catch Zika and Amy Rose Births Microcephalic Hedgehogs at The Olympic Games'.

Or they could mix Megaman and Sonic, just like the comics. When did giving a Sonic game weapons ever go bad?

I cant tell if joking, but Shadow the Hedgehog had guns galore. It was a piece of shit.

I would love a Generations 2 honestly. I was actually seriously hoping for DLC for the first. I feel like there's sooo many other iconic levels to work with. I was thinking...

Classic

  • Starlight Zone
  • Casino Night Zone (not a pinball table although that was actually fun)
  • Flying Battery Zone
  • Boss: Big Arms

Dreamcast

  • Red Mountain
  • Metal Harbor
  • Grand Metropolis (they count Heroes as DC era for some reason)
  • Boss: Bio Lizard

Modern

  • Arid Sands
  • Asteroid Coaster
  • DesSert Ruins
  • Boss: Nega Wisp Armor

Oh man, if there was a Generations 2... I'd want some Mecha Green Hill Zone action. Something from Sonic CD, too... anything from that would be rad.

Hydrocity Zone would be a must from Sonic 3, although Flying Battery would be cool too. Metal Harbor would be a solid choice from Adventure 2. I'd put Mystic Mansion as my Heroes choice since that was the most memorable for me.

I picked up Sonic Lost World a few days ago, although I haven't started the game up yet. I think it's the first Sonic game that I've actually bought for myself, rather than it being a gift from when I was younger. I'm excited to see how it plays. I've already listened to the soundtrack, heh.

2 was a great game

A bit of a confession: I only like 1 third of Adventure 2. I don't see how people can stand the Tails/Eggman missions. They're so noisy, slow, and easy. And while control wise Knuckles/Rouge are fun, finding the crystals can take a horribly long time. Its not always easy to find them, and while I certainly don't think challenge is a bad thing, I felt they were too frustrating level wise.

I only really liked the Sonic/Shadow levels.

It's...weird. It's playable, but it's reallllly weird. Would not blame you if it ended up not suiting you. The 3DS version handled a lot better, but suffered from poop level design.

No, I don't blame you and agree. The only mech stage I liked was Cosmic Wall. The others were really obtuse. The driving stages were disgustingly atrocious. I would rather play the whole of Sonic 06 than get all the emblems there (yet I did anyway because I damn sure wanted Green Hill). I'm stunned Sega of all people made such garbage driving physics.

I'm pretty sure if SEGA made an entire game based off the Chao garden from those games people would love SEGA to death.

The Chao garden was really well loved and one of my friends still plays Sonic Adventure 2 sometimes just to care for his Chao.

My game had 3  . One for me and one for my brother and sister. I would abuse theirs when they weren't around.

Probably should keep the abuse thing out of any future games...

And they can drown.

I wonder why this was never brought back. It was so well made and highly approved of. People love virtual pets.

Hey, I got Star Fox Zero down pretty well, so I'm feeling optimistic. ;) Unless it plays like Sonic and the Secret Rings... or Sonic Heroes... or... any other Sonic game...

Controls are odd, but not quite the problem. He turns at these rather sharp 90 degree angles and has this unnatural momentum loss. Nothings really "bad" but it doesn't feel at all like a Sonic game should. Especially coming off of Generations which for the most part was a dream in terms of movement.

Me too, to be honest. Having a Lego mini-Green Hill Zone on top of my bookcase would look sweet.

Lego Egg Carrier (I'd even take '06 Egg Carrier), Lego Egg Mobile-D, Lego Flying Battery, Lego Gamma, Lego Tornado (with Tornado 2 B-model). I'd be buying Legos again nonstop.

  • 2 weeks later...

Tbh I never got into sonic, Idk if I'm too young at 20 but all I remember from sonic is a bratty little hedgehog and running and jumping.

It seems the idea of going fast is literally the only thing that is good about it..... not the game itself but the base gameplay.

I would say let the franchise die and simply start a new one that has everything done better and characters that don't make me want to pimp slap them.

Well, I found something that made Borderlands PS better. lol

Rolls at you abnormally faster than other Kraggons, and drops the most money of basic mobs and always in a circular pattern. haha

(There's also a Phonic Kraggon that's blue with red legs.)
