Yeah I completely agree that lots of people don't subscribe to a tumbleresque view of the world and I don't think that there are only liberals and conservatives; I'm not part of the American bi-partisan political system anyway.

That's what I like about politics. It really highlights everyone's unique opinions, thoughts, feelings, desires etc. I always strive to understand where people are coming from if they have an opinion that conflicts with mine but there's some things I can never understand. It includes religiously-based/traditionalist-based right-wing opinions, and it sure as hell includes radically retarded left-wing opinions too.

You're not wrong. His avatar is handsome...

His voice isn't really though :(

Criticize them enough and they'll understand what's wrong.

You have to give them enough space to learn and apply what is taught. If it's just another passing fad of this age,  just let it be.

So far,  the cause seems noble. That's probably why they still stand.

You're right. I believed (and probably still believe) my fair share of bullshit. If you're given the chance to defend your beliefs rationally and you can't, it's time to change a few opinions. There's always those who won't though. Being wrong sucks! It hurts your pride and confidence. When you're university aged those things seem far more important, and are more easily shaken than they have any right to be. I guess it's just part of growing up.

If you feel bad now, come see several other universities here in the USA. You'll see the same thing, but NOW APPLY IT TO THE TEACHERS.

This is why I tend to not put much faith in people that say they have a college/university education. 90% of the people that myself or my fiance have seen in a college or higher university are as dumb as a box of rocks.

The university my fiance went to had a fucking course called "Anime and Philosophy." All they did was sit and watch Evangelion, there was no discussion. I even got to attend the 'class' for free, they weren't checking student enrollment!

I was less than impressed with what I saw from most higher education institutions. The only ones that continue to hold my higher regards are the ones that focus most on hard sciences, and less on sports, liberal studies, and political crap.

Hey now, don't insult rocks.

To add to this, a housemate of mine once told me about a friend of his. This man wrote his master's thesis on the role of female villains in anime. As it was explained to me, he basically did nothing for two years and then crapped out his 'thesis' a week before it was due. This was in England btw, the US is not alone in this.

yay for being a business student

I'm not ever going into super well known and awesome sciences

but I'm not wasting my life in liberal studies

I get to be as boring and normal as possible : D

Also, it depresses me that arts universities generally don't place emphasis on giving people technical training and business skills. It makes me sad looking at the new recruits, who are often very good painters, inevitably turn into boring pretentious abstract expressionists. :C

My sister is an art student, and she abhors those kinds of people. Being a business student, and knowing a little about marketing, I could help her find people to hire her. She's waiting for the person who hired her to be get the wall ready so she can paint a mural.

So tomorrow we have planned our employee trip to Cedar Point, but last night a nasty storm hit the causeway and knocked out power to the park. They were closed all today trying to clear the damage and get the power up. Hopefully Cedar Point is fully operational tomorrow, as we have been looking forward to this trip for a while, and the weather tomorrow is supposed to be 70 degrees and cloudy, nice and comfy. Also, the park might be busier tomorrow with people who came today only to found it closed. I guess I'll find out soon enough.

Wait, you live local enough to go to Cedar Point?
Have fun, that place is awesome.

And his videos piss me off. He'll take some stereotype or radical thing left-wingers do and be like 'haha look at these lefties being idiots!!!' thinking as though it represents any kind of collective opinion. It's not just him who's guilty of this.

This is most of conservative talk radio.
"LOOK AT THIS THING THAT TUMBLR OR BLM DID, THAT'S THE WAY THE ENTIRE LEFT IS." They brought up a blm person saying that all whites should kill themselves because of white privileged, and claimed that's the way the left worked. If that was really the case we'd have a lot of liberals just committing suicide for being white.

Well, they posted that car on Saturday, and now it's gone. Welp.....

Also, know this is clickbait, but in the article..

Quote

“I pledged to support not only the U.S. Constitution but the Alabama Constitution as well,” Moore said when he was sworn into office, “which provided in its preamble that the state ‘established justice’ by ‘invoking the favor and guidance of Almighty God.’”

So wait, the Alabama constitution mentions the Christian God?

Hmm.... in clear violation of the First Amendment. You could probably sue and successfully get that removed in the US Supreme Court, but then the religious nutjobs would scream their religious privilege is being taken away. Time to clean the human population, it looks like.

As much as I like Evangelion, it makes me sad that people would actually attend something like that and believe that there is a viable career path available to them after completing such a dumb course.

(Much like Liberal Arts and Women's Studies)

I mean, that's dumb, but for some people, they know the risks it involves and they do it anyway because that's what they love to do (although a course on anime is a bit too much)..

I say these things because I'm friends with so many students who take majors that they know would be hard to make a living in, but they do it anyway because it's their passion.

I mean, hell, I was almost a music performance major, so I know where a lot of those people do come from.

I totally get that degrees in areas like that are taken by people because it's their passion, but if there isn't a viable career option at the end of it, I don't think the fees and the amount of debt you'll get yourself into at the end of it mean that it's not a good trade.

If you're passionate enough about something though, you'll always find a way to make ends meet.

Lesson learned: Don't use headphones while drawing (or watching) porn in such a vulnerable position.

From this post showing up in the activity feed, alone, I thought this was about piloting a giant mecha.

I am now sorely disappointed that people aren't trying to get a career in piloting giant mecha.

Cleaner comes in, says 'Oh my god I'm a furry too; let's yiff, kid'.

Always happens.

It is an oft told tale yes.

But seriously, if it happens in your room you should be okay about it. Where else are you supposed to draw porn? In the middle of a children's hospital?

Why is the government funding welfare but NOT funding giant death robots? Thanks Obama.

I didn't do anything extracurricular past like cheerleading in elementary / middle school,
and choir in middle school.

Because the more I could minimize my time in and association with school, the better.

I knew these two twins who were no joke taking like 8 AP classes at once this year in addition to leading/participating in multiple clubs and applying to literally dozens of colleges. I'm all for going above and beyond, but holy shit.

Thing is, they were really cool guys and seemed really relaxed most of the time. I don't know how they do it. They graduated this year and are going to Princeton.

I used to be like that, advanced and college classes all the time, plus band (nothing else, but band is a huge time eater as is)

On the subject of extracurricular activities, I used to be on my high school's comedy improv team. I loved what we were doing, but I hated the leadership. The leader of the group played favorites, couldn't take criticism, and talked shit about people who didn't come to the meeting. He'd make a great FA admin.

As expected, pushing back has started the ball rolling towards alleviating this nightmarish 2-weeks of 14-working-hour days. Until we have the tools to receive notifications without constantly sitting next to the work laptop, I have been pardoned entirely and I am back to the usual 1 or 2 hours of After Hours Monitoring for my 2-weeks. Moreover, this will likely provide leverage among our management to better push for automation or other solutions to further reduce or eliminate the need for this type of chained-to-secure-WiFi monitoring. \o/
