GemWolf
Horror movies....ahh yes. My favourite! So, what is your limit? Do you have one? Where do you draw the line? I breezed through the Hostel trilogies, fell in love with Saw (all of them), meh at The Human Centipede (yeah it was gross but not scary), loved the "hype/make you jump" factor in all of the Paranormal Activities...ah I could go on forever. The one that really kinda got to me (if I am to pick a line to draw for myself) would be Kevin Smith's Tusk. Now that is some messed up sheeeeet! It reminded me a lot of another movie called The Island of Dr Moreau. Now, I'm not gonna label Tusk as scary, but it fits nicely under disturbing. It stayed with me, and yeah that drew the line for me. That kinda shit is just not doable. Edited November 16, 2015 by GemWolf
Dr. Doggo
I love horror, but I hate gore-porn horseshit. Nothing wrong with gore in horror but slasher movies are bottom-tier. I like brains behind my spoops.

Vaer
isn't that a TV episode? I could be wrong though forgive me Yes! It is actually. Part of the Masters of Horror TV show. But each episode in the series is also a standalone movie. I used to own a few DVDs in the collection.Jenifer and Fair Haired Child are good episodes/movies as well. Phausk
I liked The Shining. Psychological horrors tend to give me the creeps more than jump scares/slashers. KyryK
Wow, the pun in that thread title is terrible, almost as bad as most horror films. I think most horror is absolutely awful and fails to be remotely frightening or interesting at all. The only horror film that's really stayed with me is Antichrist, a very strange film by Lars von Trier, it's not really scary but it finds a way to get into your head. At the end of it i was just left quite confused and disturbed as this fantastically unsettling music played over the end credits. Also you can't go wrong with The Evil Dead, but everyone knows that. Tho I found the recent the gallows quite good. And unfriended was actually quite a refreshing take on that genre. Technically. It was way better than what I expected. Also, despite what people say about it follows, I actually found that movie quite boring. Really really boring. Sure the premise was sexually transmitted ghost and that piqued my interest but man. That was really poor execution. It was a beautiful movie tho. Technically speaking. The camera shots were too perfect it might've been better as a showcase or documentary or something. Lol.@GemWolf I wouldn't really classify human centipede as horror. That said. Human centipede 3 was kinda Boring.

I find it sad that your feelings on the found footage style are based off the Paranormal Activity movies. I liked the first one a lot (especially with the online alternate ending), but after that none of them were remotely anything to me. If you want some good found footage movies, check out...... Noroi: The Curse, Grave Encounters, and POSSIBLY V/H/S. Way better are probably out there, I've probably forgotten about some, but I can come back if I remember some.I liked The Human Centipede, and I loved the second one. I was so damn excited for the third one but my god.... I can safely say that was the single worst movie of ANY genre I've ever seen. Just so disappointing that what was a really enjoyable franchise for me had to be stained with that travesty.

The main reason behind my fear is the fact that it was the first of its kind in Australia, and also for the first week following its debut audiences were lead to believe it was real. Only once the media finally came clean with the truth and showed interviews with the cast as evidence they are live and well did we all go *phew*That is the only time I have ever been terrified like that while watching a movie - and I loved it!! There was a Japanese movie that was much worse than that in the 80s called Guinea Pig. Many people (including Charlie Sheen) thought it was real and freaked out thinking it was a snuff film. The director was forced to make a documentary on how he did the special effects and prove nobody was hurt or killed.

GarthTheWereWolf
I adore horror films.Monster movies, especially ones with practical effects. All my love <3 CG can eat a bowl of dicks. It'll never compare to the likes of The Thing with its practical body horror effects.Ghost movies are boring as all hell. Wooo a door slammed shut, a lamp fell over woooo I'm so startled! Blah.Slasher movies are just as bad. I'm completely bored by human killers. They just aren't as fun to watch because its the type of thing that's already out there in real life. But monster movies... they're so creative and fun to watch. Pure escapism <; There's such a huge variety of creatures out there to populate the genre; its great! Critters, C.H.U.D, Mimic, Under the Bed, Rawhead Rex, The Blob, Dog Soldiers, Them, Day of the Triffids, Night of the Demon, Horror Express... the list just goes on n on of nasties that want to eat your face. GarthTheWereWolf
Eh, my problem with ghost movies is they have no atmosphere. All of the fear factor is just from cheap jump scares. There's no real tension to them. I mean yea... there's always some exceptions like Poltergeist, The Conjuring, and Amityville horror. But the recent things that've been churned out like paranormal activity just put me to sleep. On a completely unrelated side note~ last horror movie I watched: The Green Inferno. Fucking disgusting. I see people taken apart all the time at work and it doesn't phase me, but I felt sick during that movie. It was awesome! V; I sang the southpark rainforest episode song in my head through the entire movie.

Tyranno
f they're teen horror with gore, one-dimensional characters who only exist to die, or (urgh) jump "scares", I don't care.If they're of the emotional mature variety with characters with depth, ability to produce tension and atmosphere, and actually understand that a brutal death is worst not for the deceased, but for those left behind, we're on the right track.Like many, many horror fans, I thought the wide theatrical releases were the low point of modern horror around 2006-2010 or so. While its improved, and whether the wide theatrical releases are worth it depends who you ask, I personnlly don't think its enough. There are some adult wide theatrical releases like Sinister and Dark Skies, but... I'm not sure its worth digging through the dreck that is the average wide theatrical releases, and there's lots of horror these days that's substantually better than the best of the wide theatrical releases

Some of the visuals were cringe-worthy (in the positive sense) and it was a decent movie overall. I wasn't thrilled with Dark Skies (me and my roommate watch a lot of alien movies a lot for laughs and we make jokes about that one often), but I'm so fucking glad it wasn't just found footage shit.
