Um, ok so this was weirdly specific.

According to an example give in the code of conduct I am not allowed to draw children's cartoons on the weekends for money without permission from a corporate superior who will verify that it won't interfere with my work.

I mean yeah it's completely unrealistic and probably violates State law (these things are generally the company's global policy) but still, oddly close to home. Guess I won't be taking commissions any time soon :V

The only two roller coasters i've ever chickened out on are Top Thrill Dragster in Cedar Point and Evel Knievel, a wooden coaster, in Six Flags St. Louis.  I walked out of Evel Knievel cause while in line i could see that most of the nails appeared to be coming loose, sticking out as if they weren't nailed in all the way.

That's very strange, did someone confront you about it or something?

Lol, no. It's just an example of not working outside of work from the corporate code of conduct training thing. These materials aren't even assembled in the same country as me xD

I could definitely get away with it, and they wouldn't be firing me they'd be freeing me! XP

At any rate, this is the same document that tells us that its against company policy to rig political elections or attempt to overthrow a country's government.

a lot of that sounds like it goes unsaid, does it say anything about it being against company policy to commit murder or rob a bank? I guess the examples you give tho are things that can be done with enough money/power

The training flopped at the last entry. It got a fatal error when I tried to launch the pledge to sign. It had been going so smoothly, too.

Interesting, but unrelated, the was a CEO PR release that caught my eye and I decided to thumb through. While most these 'forward looking statements' are things we've all heard before, he predicts that block-chain technology will revolutionize sectors like real estate, police will carry out predictive detection of threats to prevent incidents, and that people will soon have to learn to work with intelligent machines in order to be productive in society...

I feel like this is the beginning of the end for wooden coasters as a whole as they slowly get replaced by smoother, easier to build and maintain steel coasters. Shame, I love wooden coasters and their rough yet enduring ride. I certainly hope Kennywood in Pittsburgh continues to maintain their wooden coasters. Wooden coasters are a piece of history that I feel should be preserved.

I've always wanted to check out Kennywood sometime. Like, make it a two for one... I go to KW the Thursday before Anthrocon, and then I can stop by AC as well.

You guys want a roller coaster? Elvis' fave, the Zippin' Pippin at Libertyland in Memphis (RIP you good ol park) would COME OFF THE TRACK in one certain spot. That coaster now resides in Green Bay, though I don't think the come off the track part made it along for the ride.

Reminds me of my Rollercoaster Tycoon days. Making absolutely insane roller coasters. Some of which launched riders into space.

Can confirm; am pretty mad and I'm not even a girl.

"Welcome to Ohio! Everyone here is miserable! Our major exports are depression and heroin."

I'm surprised you live here, Gravitas. Aren't you, like, a scientist or something? Why would you live here? You seem way too smart be in Ohio.

Economically speaking, Ohio is actually quite a good place to live. Lower than average cost-of-living prices, cheap than national average energy prices, robust local economy. Surprisingly strong InfoTech and Biotech sectors as well as great fall-back options in Military/NatSec and Insurance/Financial sectors make for a very decent job market. The housing market isn't inflated to hell and back. As with any state, there are parts of the state that are weaker.

Really, the biggest problem I have in my area is it's super boring and beginning to look like I'd have to move to a different area of the state if I want a software job that isn't for a bank or insurance company. Even then, the boring-ness is tolerable largely because I probably wouldn't go out and do anything even if there were things to do :U

The Cleveland area isn't all that bad, you know. It is one of the best places to be a metalhead, with all the tours that pass through here. Add driving distance from Cedar Point, and you got good times.

That being said, Mentor is almost entirely old people and therefore has absolutely no nightlife whatsoever. Good for late night drives, but the only place to drive after work is home.

Also, Ohio weather is unpredictable and will fuck with your weekend plans. Winters are brutal and will cause your car to rot, and summers are a roller coaster of temperatures. Fuck Ohio weather.

I wish FHRITP would make it into the common vernacular.

I'd love for it to be socially acceptable to scream "fuck her right in the pussy" after stepping in dog shit or hitting my thumb with a hammer.

Or maybe if I got a promotion at work I could release a triumphant FHRITP.

New-guy3, the replacement for Bear-Necklace New-guy, has been swiftly pulled into the project. (New-guy2 joined back some time when I was on vacation and I never mentioned them.) Bear-Necklace is showing New-Guy3 some of our processes, like the pre-testing-environment testing environment that was added between our local testing and unified testing environment because the client kept complaining that things would break during unified testing and have to go back to for a fix.

You can hear his mind bending.  :)

Meanwhile, I'm waiting on the one and only guy responsible for maintaining that mid-level testing environment to get back from lunch. I need him to tell me where a process pulls a file from in testing so I can insert a test file. I need to wait for him because we no longer have access to see those values for this testing environment. He is on a separate project-group and in another state.

The bottleneck is sick, which is why he hasn't been around since lunch.

On the bright side, I found this absolutely sublime floor lamp!

Alas, I could never justify spending that much money on a friggin' floor lamp (even if it IS gorgeous...)
