I was thinking: it seems hard to make friends, here. I've tried, by being friedndly, and some furs have been awful nice, yet I kinda feel like an outsider. I know I'm no good at computers and don't play video games, and that makes it hard....though I do tend to feel lonely here; sometimes it seems like everyone already has friends and knows each other from the days of yore, other times, there's just not much of a 'spark', it seems. Well, I don't mean to be mopey, and all BAWWWWWWWW...just feeling kinda lonely, I guess that's a human/animal enough thing. I was also thinking it was odd: not one PM, yet, the whole time here...maybe folks here are just averse to them? Well, I love to talk, just wanted to say I feel kinda at a loss here, as far as connection, goes, overall...

Hey, I didn't know anyone, I just joined because an artist I liked recommended it. They spoke of a far off city with streets of gold....

while I couldn't find El Dorado, I did find Phoenixed, which may have been what they were getting at.

Just post, don't be a dick (not a problem for you, I can tell.) and be social.

As for PM's, I can count on one hand the number of PM conversations I've had. Had little need for them. Major were answers to questions I asked out of curiosity.

Also Mattymutt is right, the Discord is a great place, so I highly recommend that.

It's a lot easier to get to know people if you're on the phoenixed discord, fossa. If you wanna make furriends just on the forums you really gotta be outgoing and PM people and stuff, get some one on one chat goin'.

What's the discord? Can I do it on  Chromebook? I don't really have a very stable desktop, in fact, it still runs XP. I do like PMs, mainly, 'cause I type slow, and write longer sentences, so that 'chat' has never been an easy thing for me, but I do/will try. I have reached out a bit in POMs, just didn't feel like there was much mutual interest, in keeping them going

And I do post a lot, and try to make people feel good, and be positive...guess I feel sorta invisible? I'm not good at being 'edgy', and that seems to be a big thing, and trying to act tough. I am in my way, 'tough', the life I lived...well thanks for the advice. So how does Discord work??? Can I just sign in, from here?]

Also, I made a pretty detailed profile, but moted most members seem to have left if pretty much totally blank, as for interests, bio, &c....is that the 'norm'?

Discord is a chat/voice client that functions similarly to teamspeak, but it's much nicer. They have a browser client so you can join no problem, and I think I just have to ask a mod to invite you, if yer interested.

Also dude...please don't try to be edgy. Just be yourself.

Details about the two main Phoenixed Discord servers (PFO for all ages, and PDC for adults) are listed here, if you're interested:

As for whether or not it works on Chromebook, I'm not sure, as I have no experience with that platform.
But you can run Discord from your browser, the desktop client, or the mobile app.

Thanks, I will give this a try! Am gonna take a nap, long week of work, commuting, and heat, but will see I can get added. The adult one sounds more fun; I don't really wanna talk politics, and argue, or get drug into such things, so that one might suit me more. Will have to explore!

Happy to help. Have a good sleep.

Uh just by the way, that stuff isn't really whats discussed in the general PDC. I don't know about the adult PDC, but its just pretty laid back general conversation in general chat, nothing too heated really.

Come pop into my cooking broadcast when I've got it up and send out invites!

OK, will try this as well. Thanks for all the suggestions, everyone. Sometimes I do feel like a 'weird' furry, due to my near total lack of interest in computers, video games, and not having a smart phone, and liking stuff like literature, and the humanities more...and nature, and the physical world. I think meets would be good for me, I don't drive/have bad vision, and there's none in Baltimore/DC...it seems like 'furry' is a very suburban thing, and not found right in the city. It's weird, I live in a kinda hip, artsy area, and yet, not a single fur has cropped up. And I go out an explore a lot, and have put my feelers out...

It really depends. People do get heated occasionally, but like any string of general conversation, it shifts in tone as time passes.

My advice for... well... any of the chats, really, is to step back and come back in a bit if the current subject of discussion isn't your cup of tea.
Or to just bring up your own subject. If people wanna, they'll bite.

Another important distinction is that PDC (adult) has voicechat, while PFO (all ages) does not.
Voicechats are harder to monitor and gather evidence for unsavory behavior, so it's easier just to keep them disabled in PFO so we don't run into legality issues with the minors present there.

So if you want to pop in a mic and talk to people, that might be worth consideration too.
(Ignoring the fact that literally nothing stops you from being part of both, at the same time, if you're an adult.)

Most furries do a pretty good job of hiding it in mixed company unless they have no shame or are completely off their rocker. Or if you're a dude like me who feels the need to share it wth all of his friends after taking a sketchy cocktail of psychedelic drugs.

inb4 there are no "normal" furries. Not that that's a bad thing, I think weirdos are fun.

What about just restricting Voicechannels to users with [adult] role? Or is that a text-channel-only feature?

Try the IFPL http://ifpl.cattech.org - it's old but many of those names are very likely still around.

Ok, will do. How does one search it? Couldn't seem to find a place to enter a zip code. There's a few meets in Maryland, but way out in the burbs or going towards the west/mountains, so no way to get to 'em if you don't drive. As an urban sort, it's weird to me that there's not many furs I've met who live in cities, all in all. Mainly parent's basements, in the burbs :)

But I have wanted to start a Baltimore/DC meet, that you can reach via the MARC/Amtrack line; I'm very close to Penn Station, and this connects most of the east coast, and connects to the DC metro, and even Northern VA. So it would seem a viable way to bring people together. I did go to the fur the more con, taking the train down to VA, and then the metro...but, oddly, met no furs from Baltimore! Mostly from much farther south...fun con, went with my mate and had a great time, just didn't manage to 'meet' people, which is odd, for us...maybe furries are hard to meet? Well, no matter. I will try and see what I can put together here. Is anyone on these forums near Baltimore/Maryland/DC??? I've posted on FA (forums and main part), not much luck. What other sites might be good?

I can bring it up in modchat.
I think it also extends to the PFO having stricter rules than the PDC, but don't quote me on that.

EDIT: It was decided that it's simply too easy for users to both rule break and be creepy on voice, without any evidence to point back to their behavior for punishment later.
An easily abusable system for both accusers and the accused, alike.
So no voicechat for PFO.

PDC can get away with it because it's more relaxed in tone.
And that's not taking into account the numerous private servers other users own, and direct calling to individuals, if people want to voicechat.

I knew there was a reason I never check that subforum.

I recommend joining both, and go from there. Better chance of finding an interesting convo going on.

So, I thought having a coworker rant at me about Trump a few weeks ago was bad, but today another coworker decided I needed an education in his extreme political and social ideas for probably an hour straight, never allowing himself to be dissuaded despite my numerous attempts to change the subject.

He has started on similar topics before, but this time I couldn't escape because our boss had given us a bunch of tasks to complete together... so I got to hear him rant about how the high divorce rate is the fault of the government and greedy women as well as how only religious people should be allowed to get married...

I really need to find a better job.

tbh, I have been meaning to talk to you more, but I am oft afraid I'd end up rubbing you the wrong way in PM like I do with people because I'm gross and say gross things sometimes

Odd, I was thinking of doing the same thing! No worries that you'll say anything too gross; I'm a pretty kinky fur, all in all...

So I bougth a new to me computer and it's having an issue that I can't pin point. It had an unreadable blue screen last night and now when I boot it the Motherboard is kicking on, the hard drive seems to be spinning, but the computer won't boot, the monitor doesn't react to the boot sequence and there's no beep for anything. I have no idea what is wrong.

No POST and no warning beeps typically means dead mobo.

I sure hope not. The thing was doing quiet boots anyway, read that there's no post sound. Going to change out the power supply for something with a lot more kick and try to get it going again.

I just spent like a half-hour playing solitaire on the shitter.

Fucking solitaire...

It's nice to appreciate the finer things the world has to offer. I spent a good 45 minutes putting skittles in my dog's lip because it's hilarious watching him try to eat them.

People like us are a fine breed. Truly exceptional individuals.

That depends.

Is this the place where the "Egg-Slut-Walk" takes place?

We do need to take a stand against Omelette culture.

There is also a Yolks right to choose.
