Should I join Sofurry?

I made an account on it a while ago when I got sick of FA. I'm not gonna lie, it's a whole lot more weird. By design.
E.g. Characters are officially described by the site as 'roleplay characters', and it asks you for your character's sexuality.

It seems like that kind of place.

It was previously YiffStar and had cum counters instead of "Likes or Favorites"
So it has cleaned up some, but really needs to become a bit better then it is to be taken seriously

i frequent SF (as in go there every day)

the forums are pretty meh, some funny shit goes down but nothing in comparison to faf imo

i spend most of my time in the chatroom, it's much better than it used to be (i remember when i went to see what it was like when it was called yiffstar, and there was a thread asking about what lube was best to fuck your dog with)

none of that anymore, thankfully

so yeah, i'd suggest it, especially the chatroom, i met my boyfriend of just over a year through it and there're some pretty cool guys on there that i'd consider good friends and good people

also the drama is fucking hilarious when it happens

Until Weasyl came around, SoFurry was my preferred spot for my writing. Moved over to Weasyl and decided to pull some of my stuff from SF(or all of it, I honestly don't recall) for some reason.

So eh, I'd say stick to Weasyl. Help them by uploading your stuff and such.

I use Sofurry for stories, but my stories don't get nearly as much attention there as they do on Furaffinity. That's why I post on both. I did manage to get followers who like my work instead of people just expecting me to follow them back.

It's also got a roleplay forum and groups with their own forums, if you're into that.

It surprises me even to this day, that anybody has ever managed to successfully upload a story and have it attract reads, on FurAffinity. Stories on FA were not just third class citizens, they were holed up in Steerage. If you are a writer, I would recommend giving SoFurry a try although it has some pretty irksome UX issues that I understand are being worked on with v3.0. I have not used Weasyl so I cannot comment on how good/bad it might be, but I take from everyone elses feedback that it does an acceptable job and I would presume to expect that InkBunny is optimised (like FA) for digital image content.

I'm a staff member on SF, and i can tell you from personal experience, like every furry website it has its ups and it's downs. For those who don't know, Sofurry started its life as Yiffstar, a predominantly pornographic site, and as such, a lot of the main userbase heavily adores adult artwork. This is something i'd personally love to see change, but the site seems to be stuck in this cycle of "nobody uploads clean to Sofurry," so nobody goes there looking for clean works, so the users who DO upload clean complain of low view counts on clean works, and continue ad nasuem. The site is trying to shake off its "porn site" immage, but like a lot of things, that takes a long time.

Putting a Daily limit on a user could help.
General audience normal no limits but adult say 2 per day or such.
Just to slow the traffic down.

A limit on uploads? i believe we've tried something similar in the past with disastrous results. I personally think it's going to take a shift in community perception. If we keep working at it, im sure we can get it eventually.

Also just putting this out there. I do not represent SF here in any way. Just offering an insight.

Interesting that someone from staff there posted. :P

I too am also staff; as a coder even. One little fascinating detail is fact the known "cum counter" is commented away somewhere in the code and (if I recall) also in the database table structure unused. Of course, that is more than likely for compatibility when it goes from version 1 to 2, and soon to SoFurry 3.

And like mentioned, every site has its pros and cons. I actually first registered at SoFurry back a bit later when it was just being known as that after YiffStar. Some people might find the userbase a bit weird, but honestly I find weird amusing and cool because normal is boring. Perhaps I am just open to people being different than me thus might have other ideas to spend their time. :P

I later worked on development of the site once I became more active and able to help. I won't say much because I am obligated to but I will say that some of my tasks are dealing with forum/group work since I have been coding my own forums for over 5 years with all so many needed features. Sadly delayed due to finding a place to live. >_<

Also the staff are friendly and Toumal is always fun to talk to. Honestly I don't understand some of the flak the site gets but alas perhaps I am bias as it was my first fur site I registered on back as a lurker new to it all. At least transparency is not an issue at SoFurry. I am hoping that I can make more of a difference with my abilities. ;)

So if you just want more audience, then you should definitely consider registering. Someday I need to upload more stuff because programming takes over more than my artistic story/art side. I even can compose. A shame! I also find the RP feature interesting. If someone doesn't want to use the feature then don't use it. While I might be an oddball thinking its neat, I do enjoy how they allow NSFW mode avatars. Heck it inspired me to put such a mode into my own site/forum (even to the point to allow a [nsfw] tag filtered by permissions).

if you dont mind the fact of the best course of action is to NEVER go into the forums or the chatroom...you'll be fine. SoFurry is much more friendlier to writers than other sites due to it was yiffstar which was a furry writers site.
As an ambassador over by SoFurry its just better to at least be on the site and get active, even join a few of the Writing base/centered groups to have your stuff read more likely and get pointers.

I was just over at Weasyl and what I found looked like a train wreck. I clicked a link that said "Literature" and I was given art, instead. Doesn't look like a very friendly place to me.

Also, I noticed the OP joined SF on 23 Aug and bailed on 03 Oct. Wow. I posted some of my stuff that had went stagnant on FA and I found a new audience that was actively reading/voting/commenting. Yeah, the formatting leaves much to be desired but hey, every site has its quirks. I know FA allowed me to upload in PDF format so that's what I chose. I did get a large amount of requests to upload on FA in .txt from those who couldn't download my works for whatever reason.

Just my $0.02 USD worth.

So Furry is ruled by power hungry mod who rule it as they see fit. The "big boss" is never present and will not answer any PM.

My account is still there and was never deleted, I contact the "boss" since he's the one in charge, but there are no respond from him.

I also wanted a commission from someone there, but for a weird reason he don't answer my message. He's also on FA and DA. No respond on FA I have not try DA. Sad he's good.

Reading through this thread, now I too am wondering if I should join SoFurry again.

I just logged into my five year old account at that I made when they first opened beta, I'm surprised it's still there.   Soon after joining I removed everything off there because at the time I wasn't really comfortable with how sex-central it seemed to be(not that I should have expected much else from Yiffstar).  It seems like it's a little more decent now, at least as much as I would expect from a furry site, and the gross "cum counter" has long since gone.

What's weird is that even though all my submissions have been deleted, I can still read the comments that they got in my notifications because I never deleted them.  Something I forgot about was that In the short time I was there my stuff received way more views, favourites and comments than my stuff has on all the other gallery sites combined.  I guess this was due to the fact that SoFurry moved much slower so that art got more exposure on the front page, which is a phenomenon I unfortunately have not seen mirrored on Weasyl.  It seems like it's still pretty slow, so I'm wondering if that kind of thing still happens.

I guess it couldn't hurt to have yet another gallery for more exposure. Thinking I should restart my old account or maybe make a new one to clear out the old watchers?

Nope. I put arts there and some screenshot of my desktop wallpaper and because of the art I was using (like Tirrel art) it was remove because of copyright. I got the same stuff with a screenshot of my desktop of the desert. Copyright.

You can only post what you did or was made for you. So a screenshot of your desktop will not be permitted if you use a picture/drawing that is not yours.

The Boss don't answer PM, so you can't complain for abuse of power. FA remove only one image because of copyright. the one with Nick from Zootopia showing him naked to clothed. I have one to no complain from FA and DA in one year that SoFurry in one day.

That's really considering most sites don't allow you to post stuff that does'nt belong to you. It's probably best to follow different art sites rules.

But when its not someone's art I show, but a screenshot of my desktop, but because the wall paper is someone's art or a picture of anything that is found on the web, that's the problem.

Actually it is you posted a desktop picture of someone else artwork and a well known one at that. Plus that's really your responsibility on what you post in your gallery on art sites. You have to really think about this. Is it yours that you made to post. If not it's best not to do so in the first place.
