How much do you figure the filthy 2000s era keyboard with dried drops of semen on it is worth?

Probably a lot, mine has no semen on it but its pretty old. Early 2000s I think. It's a Compaq! I love it. Besides you don't need a password when your desktop is so repulsive.

Mega-cool mountain lion with fully formed teeth growing out of its forehead; a shame it is dead.

Ammunition is EXPENSIVE.

Especially for these idiots firing copper-cased rounds. These are like $2 PER SHOT.

Oh well, you guys litter my mining area with useful resources, I'll fucking take it!

Speaking of, mining report for the day: Hornblende crystal, mica, garnet chunks, potential tourmaline, and an unknown very heavy ferric material.

Oh my goodness, you collect rocks too! Are you a geologist?

Nope, just a serious hobbyist miner.

Your knowledge of minerals is impressive; most geology students are not that good at mineral identification.

I am envious of your garnets, even if they are not gem quality; I have some from an ultra-mafic pod in the Lewisian Gneiss of Scotland, and they are very small. There are crystals the size of fists at the outcrop, but the weather has corroded most of them.

I was just viewing Theramintrees' latest video [well known youtuber] about 'coming out'. He was saying that he felt sympathetic towards apostates leaving religion, and the disapproving treatment they may receive in less enlightened societies, or from judge-mental individuals. He then expanded that there could be many groups this applied to and brought up a list on-screen.

Furry appeared in the list.

Like, ergh mah gawd. It feels weird that theramintrees is thinking about furries. O_o It's kind of like when you pick up a rock and all of the woodlice underneath it realise that people know they are there.

Ehhhh I don't think so? Maybe I phrased the comment incorrectly.

He is sympathetic to people in groups that might be viewed with distaste. He doesn't think someone should feel bad, or feel they need to hide the fact that they don't believe in Hinduism anymore, or that they're a cross dresser.

Furry just popped up as a similar example.

Read the first comment thread by Dan Penden.....

Fucking shit really? You have to ruin an absolutely adorable picture by okemono by being a fucking pseudo-intellectual neckbeard annoyingly logical debbie downer and an all around careless prick? "Well, see, hugs and love and well wishes don't cure disease, SCIENCE does. Silly primitive superstitious maggots."
Yea no shit sherlock. No one there was suggesting a Christian Science stance of praying the cancer away. The idea was basically that when someone's sick that attending to them can help, especially if they can't do shit themselves. They can get treatment, and you can be a good friend and support them as well. And in the case of colds or the flu or other viruses (which the original image was probably referring to), there is no treatment, you just rest and get better, so support is about the only thing you can do for them.

The stupid it pains me!

Monster energy drink (or 5 hour energy) and staying up all night. SLEEP IS FOR PLEBS. Force your eyes open like in clockwork orange and finish that paper until you die of lack of sleep or your head explodes!

Idk how she managed that, it's not hard to unload a gun.

Wasn't there some kind of long-running propaganda campaign in the 60s-80s or something in the states with the slogan "Work smart, not hard"? Ended up making millions for various schools all over the country and resulted in way less people doing more traditional stuff like learning an everyday trade. But I don't know too much about it.

I'll try not to make a giant effort-post but the book to read is Daniel Bell's The Coming of Post-Industrial Society. It was written in the 70s and the basic idea was that as technology in manufacturing and primary resource extraction improved, things like automation and computerization would eliminate the need for a lot of menial labour positions. Instead, we'd need people to design/maintain/operate all this technology or continue to advance science and tech through research. So that's one reason there was a big push to develop human capital in this way.

Of course you're still going to need tradespeople. The factories I've worked in still need millwrights, electricians, and mechanics, but there aren't anywhere near enough of these positions to absorb the workers from all the eliminated/automated positions. Some traditional trades, like Tool and Die, seem to be dying out. For example, in my region Tool and Die used to be a big thing, but the trade seems to be dying out (CNC machining is slowly replacing a lot of the traditional methods afaik) or the positions have moved to other countries. So we have a lot of trained and unemployed Tool and Die makers, some with decades of experience. Some retrain for CNC machining or a service job (which means paying for yet more school), or if they have the ability they'll fly-in/out to other countries where the jobs are.

I don't think automation is necessarily a bad thing. If we can produce more of our goods with fewer people and the positions aren't needed any more, one would think it would free up people's time and energy for more useful pursuits. But that's a whole other can of worms. Anyway just some thoughts on it, I agree post-secondary is sometimes a big scam f, although it's cool if the general population want to both get vocational training and enrich their lives at universities.

Don't drink too many sodas, they are really bad for you! D:

I had an associated who drank 800ml of soda each day, and was offended when I bought him artificially sweetened soda when he asked me to pick him some up from the shop.

Too much soda is a quick route to diabetes and dentistry! :C
