Rave: pulling the plug

Piece of shit Windows 7. It's never been a great love story between me and Windows, and every time it slows down to pre-Pentium levels I remind myself to move to Linux once and for all with my next computer. But tonight was an all-time record, the system wasn't even usable. I took the power cord and unplugged the fuck out of it, the DOS way.

Almost felt better than an orgasm =D

Did this ever happen to you guys?

That sounds like my phone right now. it's a 3 year old phone, and apparently unlike computers (mine is 3 years old and runs fast) phones are obsolete after a year. Thing grinds to a halt for no reason... Tried antivirus, nothing.

Will probably try to hack it and install slimrom or cyanogen and if that doesn't work then give santa blowjobs for a galaxy 6.

I like WIndows 7.

I hope you step on a Lego.

Well more power to you. But I don't. It's always sluggish no matter what.

I have better luck with my Galaxy S2X. It's barely slowed down since I bought it more than 3 years ago! Did you try wiping the OS and reinstall it?

I always found win7 performed fine as long as I made minimal effort to maintain it. It did need the maintenance though. That's why I always put linux on my father's computers: I know he's never going to so much as update it and would otherwise have such an unstable system overflowing with garbage by the time I next looked at it that I'd probably just reinstall to avoid dealing with it.

Minimal Maintenance?

-Updating/Running Avast Anti-Virus daily

-Running Tuneup Utilities daily

- Running/Checking Windows' update bi-monthly

-Deleting Files No longer needed daily

Is that minimal?

So basically you hate Windows 7 because your computer doesn't have the specs to run it.

The AV did its thing without input from me most of the time, and the rest of those things I really only did on a monthly basis (if that) without issues. Some (like updates) could also have been set to occur automatically, I just didn't like them interfering with games because the internet is slow here.

I don't really have an interest in upgrading to 10 because I've heard a lot of mixed things about it.

I was almost convinced to switch when i game I had beta access to switched to Windows 10 only and I needed to upgrade to play it, but I opted not to.

Unfortunately on January 13th 2016 Microsoft suspends mainstream support of windows 7 and 8.1 Thats one of the reasons I upgraded, also DirectX12.

Christ that's fucking annoying. Can I not just enjoy my fucking operating system without them trying to force my hand?

Whatever, I guess I'll have to try it on my laptop first and see if I like it.

I have no beef with Windows at all.

M$ has went way the fuck out of their way to develop an operating system that could handle a pile of hardware that I couldn't even begin to fathom.

They're not Apple, they don't have the luxury of having every piece of equipment that they engineer to be done entirely in house and where the OS could make assumptions about what's really going on...

On the other side of the coin, M$ has developed an operating system that is current and will still function on platforms that date back to the 19-fucking-90's. That is a HUGE feat. YOU CAN STILL GET WINDOWS 10 IN A 32 BIT RELEASE.

Just gotta gripe on Apple for a bit here, because I fucking hate them, but take a quick Google and see the last computer they issued that can handle their latest release. Not goona spoil the answer in here, fucking assholes.

But really, W7 is another release that is still receiving support for an insanely huge conglomeration of hardware... Oh, and they're offering W10 free of charge... I know, they obviously want to move away from handling 3 different iterations of their OS in terms of updates and support, but COME ON, it's fucking free! And it's good!

Be wary over what your computer is going to deal with while it's up, because every tiny thing is a tax on its resources. If you don't need it right now, don't let it find a way into processes that are going to be there over its runtime, especially if you don't have the resources to handle a pile of junk processes. I have an old piece of shit Dimension 1100 in a dark corner that is quite happy chugging along with a release of W10.

Vista was out way before it should have been; W7 is good; W8 was a pain in the ass in terms of figuring out that the fuck was going on, but it was alright; W8.1 was a solution to that bullshit; and W10 is, well, I haven't run into a problem yet.

There's always the odd hardware discrepancy, but it is way better than back in the DOS up to early XP era where if you didn't have a driver on hand, you weren't going to boot your computer!

So far I'm only testing Windows 10 on my laptop.  Had some teething issues but laptops can present more compatibility issues than desktops.  I have three more valid Win7 machines kicking but I'm unsure what to do next.  The big desktop is something I want to know runs well, though it should.  The living room HTPC should be idiot proof however, but I want to make sure Kodi and auto starting programs and such work correction.  What really scares me is the server.  My Windows 7 server is running about a bajillion services for me and I'm not interested in rocking that boat just yet.

Mainstream support for 7 already ended; extended support ends in early 2020. So you still get security updates for another 4 years.

edit: and for 8 it should be longer still

Thats weird. Mine works fine and I am using a heavily modded Skyrim that launches using SKSE.

Really? That's strange. I've got SKSE and about 67 mods but mine crashes to desktop immediately after the Bethesda logo screen. I wonder if just reinstalling all my Skyrim stuff would work.

Out of principal im never installing win10 because of the malware like shit microsoft has turned it into

  • I am forced out of fullscreen apps to have it be shoved in my face
  • I have it constantly try and install win10
  • I have said "no" to the damn thing over 4 times
  • I have removed the relevant KB's that add this shit and hide them from updates, still does it
  • "LEL INSTALL WINDOWS 10 NAO FEGGIT" the very next day

Try closing a few mods first to see if that's the problem.

Sounds like your missing a master file from a mod or something. I would do a reinstall. Skyrim and windows 10 should work. There were a lot of threads on the Nexus site about small issues cropping up. I would go to the Skyrim Nexus forum and search windows 10 for anything else. But a reinstall would fix everything though.
