Wayback machine on FAF

The most recent snapshot was taken on the 10th of September (for the homepage at least).

https://web.archive.org/web/20150910041514/https://forums.furaffinity.net/

If you receive an error trying to view a thread, make sure you're not just following a link to a post but rather to the whole thread. For example, https://web.archive.org/web/20150910041514/https://forums.furaffinity.net/threads/1551282-Renaming-of-the-forums-POLL?goto=newpost doesn't work but https://web.archive.org/web/20150907102052/https://forums.furaffinity.net/threads/1551282-Renaming-of-the-forums-POLL does.

Also, different threads and different pages may have been archived at different times so It may be a bit fiddly to navigate around (making sure all the URLs are valid) and some links will inevitably be dead.

Happy hunting!

Oh noes, Wayback hacked user data! Gotta threaten them with stuff too.

I suggest someone with the ability to do so download every page indexed by Wayback. Or at least pages that matter. I downloaded the fursuit tutorial OP by Deo, and I linked the indexed page in the fursuiting section here on Phoenix,

Well, the issue that badmin's boss had was with the personal data (email addresses, passwords, dates of birth etc) and bizarrely also the post-edit histories. They never had issue with the public data that is visible to everybody being, well, visible to everybody. Badmin had an issue with me starting this fork from that same public data however.

The wayback machine is doing us all a favour right now :3

The irony in this is that it's usually the Internet Archive (or, rather, Jason Scott's Archive Team) calling out for people to download things feverishly to prevent losing them forever. See their home page.

Aw goddammit, the latest archive image for the Rants and Rave section is from only 2011, one year before I joined FAF. I wanted to see some of the embarrassing rant threads I made. :v

And it also skips from about Sep 2013 to January 2014 so it does miss out on that brief moment when private areas were exposed to the public.

I was watching that unfold (and powerless to help) when Yahoo finally and too-suddenly killed off GeoCities.  How many gems were lost because one of the largest and longest-lasting free hosting communities was milked to the limit by the corporation that bought it?

not quite the burning of the Library of Alexandria, but still a major loss.

Wow, I had no idea that even happened. That was after I stopped posting I guess.

Were all the posts and threads about the fuck-up from that period deleted? If not then shouldn't they still be included in the later archived pages?

Trying to search for things when FAF disallowed users without accounts to use the search function or look at user profiles makes this difficult. I want to find my Pokemon opening parody post I made a long time ago.

Thanks for the link! Also happy Wayback took its snapshots. It is a shame when history is lost. It is for that reason I sort of overkill on backups. A shame the old place couldn't be forked, but in its own way it is also a good thing too! Now it is in no way associated with someone who clearly does not know what they are doing.

It is sad to see someone who thinks listening to the public and differing staff opinion is the worse thing ever. Why listen to the public when you get paid money to do whatever you wish and still have furs coming back just because "reasons"? :P Such mysteries and more may never be solved...
