Mozilla Wants A Brand Update

Ok.

One looks like Monsters Inc or a hardware company.

Two looks like some stupid pretentious modern art that has NO MEANING.

Three looks like a weird, gender sign or something?

Four looks like an outdated computer company.

Five looks like a slightly less outdated but still obsolete and useless computer company.

And six appears to be a cats scratching post.

Ugh, my god

I hate crowdfunding design. I really do. No one gets a full scope of the project. No one understands what the brief is. And no one gives a shit about staying true to Mozilla's origins, but instead coming up with something trendy. Mother fuck. We get open "design calls" from lazy as shit contracters all the fucking time. "Just submit anything and we'll pick :DD"

Lazy design is aggravating.

I expect nothing less from someone posting of a furry forum.

In any event, it will be fun to watch. It's like a mad scientist experiments, except there are no scientists. Just an earth quake shaking and pouring everything in the room together. I wonder what abomination will be born from such a scientific journey?

Jesus christ, those designs are ugly as sin.

I don't know why they wanna rebrand when Firefox is one of the most popular browsers out there.
Just throw an extra layer of polish on the existing ones, if you want them to look "current."

I don't think it has ever been worth preserving.

They used to have an actual logo, but it was and still is virtually unknown. Most major organizations/foundations/companies/whatever have a logo that a long-time user of their products/services/whatever can easily recognize.

Mozilla products are more easily recognized than what the company used to have. As it is, this little fucker rests in obscurity.

I can only find him being used right now for Mozilla Developer Network, which is a shame. Mozilla then went the route of just using their name, but I feel they really suck at it.

They're somewhere between Yahoo and Fruit of the Loom when it comes to sucking at it. They just spam it wherever they need to be recognized.

What they're doing has a tiny impact on Firefox. The 'mozilla' text isn't really all over the place. Also,

"To clear up one misconception, this is not a design exercise to replace the Firefox logo. Mozilla is the nonprofit maker of the Firefox open-source browser, yes... Our ultimate design for Mozilla needs to help tell the entirety of the Mozilla story." - Tim Murray, Creative Director at Mozilla

The last time they completely replaced the logo was over a decade ago from an ugly phoenix back when it was Firebird, if I remember correctly. At most, the 'mozilla' becomes more colorful on the Firefox download page.

I guess they needed to distance themselves from the copious amounts of firefox porn.

I think they might have increased the number of Firefox mascots they have, so it seems they don't give a fuck.

Also, they need to replace all of their mascots because they are awful. It is worse than the Barney costume - which was made by the same company - and that makes it even more sad. That crap is probably better for the company than the original concept; though, caricature does not have to be crap.

Fuckin' furries.

Mozilla spends time on this kind of crap but hardly touches useful stuff like Shumway? Poo on you!

Nah, the rebrand is a project for the "designers". Shumway would be something for the cool part of Mozilla and said cool part ist busy with Rust n Servo n stuff.

Lets submit the rear of a red Panda as new maskot! (Failing that, a "normal" fox butt)

And we found our new Phoenixed-Logo!

btw:

Quote

Mammon slept. And the beast reborn spread over the earth and its numbers grew legion. And they proclaimed the times and sacrificed crops unto the fire, with the cunning of foxes. And they built a new world in their own image as promised by the sacred words, and spoke of the beast with their children. Mammon awoke, and lo! it was naught but a follower.

Exactly, this!  Mozilla doesn't need a rebranding because their products speak for themselves. The whole rebranding effort reeks of desperation; of their new, clueless leadership trying to organize theur corporate strategy around some cut-and-paste plan from a business 101 textbook instead of effective stewardship of their existing products or development of true innovation.

Their ineptitude at producing even a single workable logo is a fitting summation of everything I have come to hate about modern Mozilla.

That fursuit concept art was cool, tho.

I use Mozilla, sometimes, but I noted it defaults to searching using Yahoo, or at least mine does. And I do like the cute fox aspect.

But isn't Yahoo going out of business, folding, going ka-put, being shuttered, on the ropes, going under? What will Firefox use as a default search engine?

DuckDuckGo is a good replacement for Google. I'm not sure why it only affects US users and non-Windows users.

That one sees a lot of use here at the library.

Huh, I wonder what the best search engine is for NSFW furry art. There's the real test. (Though much of said art remains hidden away, so to speak, from such searches)

...That sounds like a niche that needs to be filled (along with other things huhuh).

It literally takes like a small handful of clicks to change your default search to Google or whatever the hell you want, and to remove Yahoo as a search engine from FF entirely.
Unless you've clicked recklessly through a software installation and gotten the Yahoo toolbar malware. Which is a pretty common thing when people don't pay attention.

As for why either of these is like this? I'm guessing aggressive advertising.
Gotta pretend you're still relevant, even when you're not.
