New Discord Server (Dead)

Heya, It's me.

Over these past few weeks and months our community has been hit hard. Things are broken.
People have left, friendships have splintered, relations among the community have become tense and hostile.

Under all this many of the Discord chats have began to suffer; with many either dead or dying their last breath.
For many people, this forum and its chats are all they have; and as things continue to shatter they'll be set adrift.
Some of us will huddle content in our own little groups, but others won't be so lucky.
I can be a hateful sonufabitch; heck, I've been a part of the problem.
But I'd like to see better for these people.

So, in the face of all this, I've started a new Discord server from scratch.
It's independent of the site, but for all it's members; past and present.
I hope to bring as many people together as possible, in an attempt to stitch things back together a bit before it's too late.
Hopefully people can come and try to set their baggage aside for a fresh start.

I know there'll be many who won't want to be in a chat with x or y, or won't want to add another server; but I ask that you would at least join--even you have to mute it--just as a sign of solidarity. This community has been important to many people; we need a little unity now more than ever.

***********

The name of the server is "colon-V" ( :v ), and is open to all ages.
If you would like to join, get in touch with me here or on Discord and I'll hook you up.
You can also ask for invites for any friends offsite, if you can sufficiently vouch for them.
(please note that all invites will be approved at my discretion; I will however do my best to be inclusive)

Also, if one of the mods would be kind enough to add this to the official list of servers (the stickied thread), I'd much appreciate it.

I've never been in a Discord chat relating to this site (or any site, actually), but I thought there was just two of them, for general discussion, and one for 18+ stuff...but there's more? I've always wanted to try it, but have been sorta shy...not sure I'd have a lot to add, I guess.

Any hints on how to use it, get acclimated? Chatting with a lot of people at once in a virtual setting is hard for me, IRL, I love it, but not sure how this works online.

Well, good to see another group, maybe I'll check it out...do they tend to be more friendly/welcoming, with less of the drama and fighting, than on the forums?

Just picture a forum discussion, but moving in real-time.

It's not much different.

It's awkward at first, but the *only* way you'd acclimate to it is by jumping in and learning to swim.
It's not as hard as it looks, and everyone else had to do it at some point.

As far as the program itself, there's plenty of documentation on the web.

OK, thanks! Can ya send me a link with the password? I read the first post, but was sorta confused, what is was, and how to get added. I wonder if it will run on a Chromebook; my other computer died, so it's all I have, for a while. Will have to look into this. But yeah, best way is to just dive in, and try. I suppose it's like any other live chat, so I can imagine it, just wasn't sure how it differed...that, and I'm horrible when it comes to computer related things, in general!

Thanks for the info, and if I get an invite, I'll try and check it out later, see how it is.

I've always been to shy to go on Discord, I'm probably being a just a piss-baby though.

I used to be the same way about chat programs. After a month or two, you start to get comfortable and it feels a bit more natural. You just gotta get over that initial awkwardness.

Same for forums, you just have to get over yourself. I nearly left these forums when I first joined.

OK, tried, but could not get it to work :(

I feel so dumb about things like this! Answered the verification e-mail, and did it all in the 24 hour time, yet it says, 'invite expired', and some stuff I dun understand.

[it was a single use link, he had to click it twice; fixed over PMs]

OK, I tried it and had fun....but my password expired later the same day. Do you have to just keep re-requesting them? I did enjoy it, though it;s hard, with the passwords, when they say sorry, nobody here, expired. Do others get this, too. or maybe just me? Am confused, why it happens.

No, once you're in a Discord server, you stay in until banned.

Log back into your Discord app (or their web app) with the login you created during signup and you'll see the server's icon on the left-hand side.

Okayy.... So I suppose I should finally give some sort of official explanation for eradicating the server.

I'm sorry.

I was sick of watching my friendships crumble and sitting back as tensions heightened between opposing personalities.
It wasn't pleasant. It wasn't pleasant to watch, and it wasn't pleasant to be a part of the problem.
So I cut it down.

I could've just transferred the ownership over to someone else, but unfortunately I have a flair for the dramatic.
A lot of things have come to a crashing end in my life recently and I had to hit bottom.
In the process I tore a lot of my life down in a fit of self-destruction.
So yup. You paid the bill for that. Sorry.

But in the end, I think it might have been best for everybody. Let this endeavor show that you don't have to go where they go, you can set out on your own and build something. Something you believe in. Somewhere that's for you and yours.

But, at it's start, it was a runaway success. We singlehandedly killed both "official" servers within 24 hours of going live, and they never recovered traffic. At the high-water mark we had around 70+ members gathered together in total. I gotta say I'm damn proud of what we did accomplish, however fleeting.
I thank each and every one of you who helped me out. Both to the wonderful mods, @Recel@Falaffel, and @Sutekh_the_Steak; and all the members who joined to show your support. It was awesome while it lasted.

Go out and start fresh if you haven't. Find who your friends are. Do better.

PDC was already a porn zombie at that point, though.

You can't really kill a dead horse.
